BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) champion Stanford University reclaims the No. 1 position in the Division I ranks and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champion Pomona-Pitzer Colleges retains the top spot among Division III teams following the conclusion of varsity league championship competition as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2023 Week 16/May 3 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top Five Polls.
CWPA Division I Champion Princeton University remains at No. 1 in the CWPA Division I Top Five Poll after capturing the league’s crown over the weekend.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.
2023 WOMEN’S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 16/MAY 3)
Stanford University – which knocked off previously top-ranked the University of Southern California in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) title game – returns to the top of the mountain as the squad leads the 2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Week 16/May 3 Poll.
Stanford (100 points) flips the script on USC (96 points) as the Trojans were a unanimous top pick last week with a four point lead over the Cardinal. Southern California held the lead position for three weeks after knocking off the previously top-ranked Cardinal during the regular season.
Changes abound throughout the Top 25 as the University of California-Irvine (88 points) and the University of California (88 points) rise one and three positions to move into a tie at No. 3. The University of California-Los Angeles (87 points) slips two spots to No. 5 with the University of Hawaii (81 points) backing up to No. 6.
Long Beach State University (74 points) and Fresno State University (70 points) stay at No. 7 and 8, respectively, with Princeton University (69 points) and the University of California-San Diego (63 points) moving up to No. 9 and 10.
The University of California-Davis (58 points) stays at No. 11 with University of the Pacific (52 points) acquiring sole possession of the No. 12 slot and Harvard University (51 points) ascending to No. 13. The University of California-Santa Barbara (47 points) remains at No. 14 with the University of Michigan (45 points) readjusting to No. 15.
Arizona State University (44 points), Indiana University (38 points), Loyola Marymount University (32 points) and San Jose State University (24 points) rearrange to stand at No. 16-to-19, while Long Island University (22 points) cracks the Top 25 at No. 20.
Wagner College (20 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (14 points), San Diego State University (10 points), California State University-Northridge (9 points) and Brown University (5 points) complete the Top 25.

Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champion Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues at No. 1 in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Week 16/May 3 Poll for the 2023 season.
Pomona-Pitzer (100 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points), California Lutheran University (90 points) and the University of La Verne (85 points) hang on at No. 1-to-4, respectively, while Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) champion Augustana College (76 points) breaks a tie with the University of Redlands (75 points) to gain sole possession of the No. 5 position.
Whittier College (68 points), Austin College (66 points), Macalester College (46 points) and Chapman University (40 points) round out the Top 10.
