Stanford Picks Up Local NAG Record Breaker, #18 Benjamin Ho

Former USA Swimming National Age Group Record Holder Benjamin Ho made his college decision, electing to stay close to home and swim for Stanford. At the beginning of the season, Ho was tabbed at 18th on our list of the top 20 recruits of the class of 2016. He currently lives in Los Altos, CA and swims for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics.

“I chose Stanford because the combination of academics and athletics there are unparalleled. Also, the great coaches and team at Stanford made me feel like I was at home with family. Go Cardinal!”

Several of Ho’s former club teammates have done very well while at Stanford. Both Curtis Ogren and Andrew Liang swam with Ho on PASA, and his former teammate at Peak Swimming, Tom Kremer, has also done well for the Cardinal.

Ho is primarily a backstroker with best times of 48.45 and 1:44.18, but he is strong across every discipline. With his current times, he should be able to qualify for the NCAA Championships all four years and add depth at the national level. His freestyle is just a touch slower than where it needs to be to jump on their freestyle relays right away, but that could easily change as he gets stronger and develops during his senior season. With best times from his junior year of 44.71 and 1:37.29 in the 100 and 200 freestyles, I’m sure the coaching staff is optimistic about what he will bring to the team.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 100 Free – 44.71
  • 200 Free – 1:37.29
  • 100 Back – 48.45
  • 200 Back – 1:44.18
  • 200 IM – 1:48.86
