Press Release courtesy of Pac-12

The Pac-12 Conference announced today that STANFORD’S Abrahm DeVine was named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week and Tarek Abdelghany was voted Pac-12 Men’s Diver of the Week. This is the second time that the Cardinal pair swept the Conference weekly honors, as each earned the respective honor on Jan. 17.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Abrahm DeVine, Jr., Stanford (Seattle, Wash.)
DeVine won all three individual events he competed in to help No. 4 Stanford upset No. 1 California on Saturday. The Cardinal defeated Cal for the first time in six seasons with an exciting 151-149 victory and finished the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record in dual meets. The junior swept the backstroke taking first in the 100 (46.89) and 200 (1:42.25). He also won the 200 individual medley with a 1:45.81 finish, followed by teammate Alex Liang, to take home the top spots and give Stanford a seven-point lead heading into the final relay. DeVine collects his second Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week award.

Diver of the Week: Tarek Abdelghany, Sr., Stanford (Ladera Ranch, Calif.)
Abdelghany earns his third Pac-12 Diver of the Week award this season and is the first diver to win three Conference awards since 2007-08 (Micky Benedetti, ASU- Nov., Dec., Feb.,). Abdelghany scored the most diving points of any diver at the meet to help the Cardinal knock off No. 1-ranked Cal on Senior Day. The Senior from Ladera Rach, Calif., finished first in the 1-meter springboard with a score of 3.49.05 and took second on the 3-meter with 342.30 points, just behind teammate Ted Miclau (366.83). The duo combined for a total of 25 points out of a possible 26.

The Pac-12 Women’s Swimming and Diving/Men’s Diving Championships (Feb. 21-24) and the Pac-12 Men’s Swimming Championships (Feb. 28-Mar. 3) will be held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
