Stanford Sweeps Women’s Pac-12 Swimming Postseason Awards For The Second Year In A Row

The Pac-12 Conference released their annual postseason awards for the 2022-2023 women’s swimming & diving season today. Awards are voted on by the Pac-12 coaches.

Stanford swept the swimming awards for the second consecutive year after defending their Pac-12 title in February. Leading the way for the Cardinals was head coach Greg Meehan, who won his 6th career and 2nd-straight Pac-12 Swimming Coach of the Year award. In addition to winning Pac-12s, Meehan led the team to a 3rd-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Division I Championships.

Sophomore Torri Huske, who was named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Meet, is now the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year. Huske had a perfect Pac-12 Championship showing, going three for three in individual titles. Her victories included the 50 free (21.67), 100 free (47.18), and 100 fly (49.27), with her 100 fly time marking a new Pac-12 Championship record. Additionally, she contributed to Stanford’s winning 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, and 400 medley relay. At NCAAs, Huske recorded Pac-12 records in the 200 IM (1:50.06) and 100 fly (48.96), earning 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Claire Curzan was named the 2023 Women’s Swimming Freshman of the Year. She swept the Pac-12 titles in the backstroke events, setting a new Pac-12 Championship record and 17-18 National Age Group (NAG) Record in the 200 back with a time of 1:47.43. In March, Curzan added an NCAA Championship title to her accolades, as she touched 1st in the 200 backstroke in a new pool record time of 1:47.64.

For the third year in a row, Delaney Schnell from Arizona was the recipient of the 2023 Women’s Diver of the Year award. At Pac-12s, Schnell earned Diver of the Meet as she swept the springboard events and took runner-up in platform. Additionally, she was named the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year for her efforts in the classroom.

At NCAAs, Schnell took home the National Championship title in platform diving with a score of 352.65 points. She was also runner-up in 1-meter and 4th in 3-meter. Schnell’s coach, Dwight Dumais, was named the 2023 Pac-12 Diving Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

UCLA’s Eden Cheng was awarded the 2023 Diving Freshman of the Year. The newcomer qualified for finals in all three diving events at Pac-12s, and earned her highest finish at 3rd on Platform. She competed in the consolation final of Platform at NCAAs, earning a 15th-place finish overall.
