The Stanford women regained the #1 spot in the latest CSCAA (Collegiate Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America) poll, leapfrogging Texas A&M for the first time since November.
The A&M women had led for two straight polls. On the men’s side, Cal remains #1, with three-time defending NCAA champs Texas dropping all the way down to 8th. That comes after a road dual meet loss to Arizona State, the team’s fifth loss this year. The Longhorns, however, are still widely considered the favorites for the NCAA title in March with Cal as the top challengers.
The biggest riser on the women’s side was NC State, which jumped from 15th to 10th. On the men’s side, Arizona State rose from 10th to 7th. The biggest drops came from the Texas men (2nd to 8th) and Louisville women (10th to 14th).

So…. Order has been restored? At least on the women’s side. As for the men, did half of their team up and quit? If not, then #8 for them seems just wrong. And yes I get its not about NCAA place yada yada… but c’mon 8th?!?! And yes, I know polls mean nothing, so please don’t respond with those statements.
And this is coming from someone whose allegiance lies in the ACC and does not particularly care for Texas.
they’re 3-5, including a loss to a team ranked even lower than them. They don’t get to be ranked higher just cuz of the people on their team, they have to show up. And yes obviously their dual meet record is not indicative of the talent and likely showing at NCAAs, but this is dual meet rankings.
I said I know its not a ranking of predicting NCAA finishes, but I also thought that our sport was better than football and basketball (to a lesser extant) with our polls, that we still ranked based on what could happen in a duel meet. I mean by that logic that you used shouldn’t some mid-major with a 10-0 record be ranked higher than Texas with a 3-5 record? Obviously, no. But that is the logic you are using, and a logic that really does not work in swimming.
With the talent on that team, they should be performing “way better” than they have been. Can’t rank them up at #1 when they haven’t been performing so far like a #1. Not “hammering” them (though I am an A&M swim Fan); just stating the truth as of now. Claimed Cal will give them a run for their money for the National Championship months ago & I’m sticking with that prediction. Will be close & could come down to final event.
that’s not the logic I’m using at all. I didn’t say we should just rank based on record, if that was the case they would be ranked WAY lower than 8th. They’ve lost to five teams in duel meets, including a team currently ranked lower than them. You think they should just hold onto the top spot in duel meet rankings while they continue to drop duel meets?
Glad to see NC State Women getting some respect. Even though they’ve had several of their top women sick or injured in their last two dual meets (UVA and UNC) they still rallied (easily beat UNC) and got some really decent (tired) swims from their second tier swimmers. Anna Jahns 9:58 ,1000 at UVA for third? NICE!!
Stars like Hannah Moore, Elise Haan, Julia Pool, Tamila Holoub and Krista Duffield are consistently putting out some fast times and and when injured or sick teammates, like Ky-lee Perry, Kate Moore, and Courtney Caldwell return, it will be a MUCH stronger team.
I clicked on this story right after reading about a key NC State injury. That abrupt jump up in rankings might followed by an equal drop back down. #badluck
