The ongoing worldwide coronavirus pandemic is forcing changes across the country to fall sports at the high school level.
We’re tracking all 50 states (and the District of Columbia) as best we can in the index below, with links out to further information. Check out your state below, and if you have more up-to-date information, please let us know so we can continue to keep this index current.
The coronavirus pandemic caused the cancellation of many winter swimming seasons’ championship meets, as well as spring sports seasons. Now, fall sports are the most at-risk, with many states already postponing the start of fall sports, or pushing those sports into a new, condensed season in the spring.

A few notes on our index:
- For the sake of brevity, we’ve tried to distill each state’s adjustments down to the most simple description. Follow the links in the index for more full details.
- Most states have specific protocols for each individual sport – things like social distancing, mask usage, group size limitations, etc. Those adjustments are in place, even in states where the season is proceeding “as scheduled” in that state’s original competition dates.
- The COVID-19 situation remains extremely fluid, and situations are changing in every state. We’ll do our best to keep this table updated, but new updates can and will supersede previous rules.
The issue in our state is that the WIAA (Wisconsin) has given schools the option to choose whether their Fall sport will take place within the next month or during the Spring. They have not addressed if the WIAA will even attempt to hold a Spring championship meet (it’s not possible, in the Fall, with deck numbers – chances are, it won’t be happening in the Spring either, but it needs to be stated).
