Stefan Stojmenovic Breaks NJCAA Record On Night Three Of Juco Nationals

On night three of the NJCAA (junior college) National Championships Indian River continued their winning ways taking home wins in every single event contested that night.

They didn’t let anybody get past them, and much was due to the effort of Indian River’s Stefan Stojmenovic. Stojmenovic won two individual events on night three. In the first event, Stojmenovic rocked to a new NJCAA record in the 100 fly, touching in at 46.99. Second place finisher Shota Nakano was well behind in 48.27.

Following that win, Stojmenovic won the last event of the night, the 100 backstroke. There he was a 47.84 to finish just shy of his own NJCAA record of 47.55. One again he created a gigantic gap between himself and his competitors, with Austin Vines of South Georgia State College grabbing a second place finish in 51.25.

Stojmenovic was also a huge part of the Indian River relay effort. On the 200 yard medley relay he split a 21.85 on the backstroke leg, the fastest of the field, to give his team the early lead. Paired with Craig Emslie, Nakano, and Bryce Timonera the boys won in 1:27.79 by a wide margin. Emslie won the individual 100 breaststroke in 54.48.

On the women’s side it was Barbara Caraballo from Indian River who proved to be the most dominant swimmer of the night. She started off her night with a 25.72 fly split on the 200 medley relay en route to a golden performance of 1:43.38.

With a quick turn around she won the 400 IM in 4:28.12.

Two of her teammates from the medley relay also went on to take individual wins. Tayla Lovemore who led off the relay in 25.68 showed her versatility by winning the 100 fly in 54.18. She dominated her field as second place finisher Carolyn Ives was over four seconds behind her in 58.79.

Christina Loh was a 28.46 on the breaststroke leg of the relay and also dominated the individual 100 breaststroke. She won the race in a time of 1:01.80 to fall just short of her NJCAA record of 1:01.30 from last year.
