We entered day 2 of the 2024 Sette Colli Trophy with a plethora of talent competing at the Foro Italico Swimming Stadium pool in Rome, Italy.
Among the racers is Canadian Penny Oleksiak with the 24-year-old aiming at notching an individual Olympic qualifying time in the women’s 100m freestyle.
At the Canadian Olympic Trials earlier this year, Oleksiak clocked a result of 53.66, her fastest time since 2022. That missed the World Aquatics Olympic Qualification Time of 53.61 but it did add her name to the nation’s roster for the women’s 4x100m free relay.
As we reported, after the Trials, Oleksiak told the media that she would race again this summer to try and improve that result which rendered her the 26th-quickest performer in the world this season.
After bypassing the Mare Nostrum Tour, the Olympic champion is racing here. She dropped the 200m free on day one but indeed was among the 100m freestyle field this morning.
Oleksiak nabbed a morning swim of 55.18 (26.63/28.55), well away from the 53.61 she’s hunting. That placed 14th overall once the heats concluded.
Oleksiak will still have another shot at the OQT this evening should she maintain her slot in the B-Final set for the session.
Tough at 24 years old fully grown women to compete against these young teenyboppers.
53.77
Missed it.
Why would she take it easy in prelims when she must needs to hit a time?
lollllπ
Clean water, Less pressure and less strain on the body. That or possible not having a good meet.
Calm breathing and a confident start
She will get it done πβοΈ
GOOOOOOO PENNY! If anyone can do it, itβs you πͺπͺπͺ
Rooting for Penny. Would love to see her get an individual swim in Paris.
Me too. I get very annoyed when they show video highlights in the USA of the 2016 100FR and don’t acknowledge or show Penny. Memo to NBC, 2 women won gold.
I disagree
Is your first name Richard???
It’s the US and NBC. What did you expect.
Yeah, wild how they can separate the two.
Fly? Oh free.
Itβs funny how people are so snarky. Are you the most decorated Olympian in your country?
Not very encouraging
