Stony Brook Secures First Win Of Anderson Era Over St. Francis Brooklyn

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University women’s swimming and diving team secured their first win of the 2021-22 season on Saturday against St. Francis Brooklyn. With the 178.5-118.5 defeat over St. Francis, head coach Mark Anderson records his first career win.

The Seawolves had three student-athletes win multiple events in their home opener. Sophomore Mary Kate Conway, senior Jessica Salmon and junior Reagan MacDonald each recorded a pair of wins. Conway earned wins in the 100 and 200 free, Salmon was victorious in the 100 and 200 breast and MacDonald claimed victory in the 100 and 200 back. Conway and Salmon were also members of the Seawolves’ 200 medley relay squad that finished in first-place. The sophomore and MacDonald also finished first in the 400 free relay alongside Briana Liew and Lara Youssef.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Head Coach Mark Anderson recorded his first career win on home turf with the win over St. Francis.
  • Stony Brook got the meet off with a bang as it won the 200 medley relay to get the action going. The relay team comprised of Salmon, Conway, sophomore Briana Liew and senior Emma Waechter recorded a final time of 1:49.80 to pick up the win.
  • Conway secured Stony Brook’s first individual win of the meet as she claimed first-place in the 200 free with a final time of 1:58.56. Conway later picked up a win in the 100 free as she touched the wall in 54.38. She was also a part of the two first place relay teams, totaling four wins on the day, the highest of any Seawolves swimmer.
  • Salmon followed closely behind Conway, totaling three wins on the day by taking first-place in the 100 and 200 breast, in addition to the 200 medley squad. Salmon beat her previous time in the 100 free, touching the wall in 1:07.49. Her previous best was 1:08.26 at Sacred Heart.
  • MacDonald secured a pair of individual wins for the Seawolves. The junior won the 100 back with a time of 59.03 and later claimed victory in the 200 back with a time of 2:06.82, beating her previous best of 2:09.12.
