STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook swimming & diving team secured a victory over Monmouth, 171-123, in its final meet at University Pool this season. Before the meet, the Seawolves celebrated their senior class, Maddy Enda, Reagan MacDonald, Bridget Montgomery, Lara Youssef, and Claire Lewis for their dedication and commitment to the program during their careers.

The Seawolves were dominant from start to finish in their home finale, as they collected nine victories in the 14 events that the squad took part in this afternoon.

Junior Sara DiStefano set the tone for the Seawolves on the board to begin the meet earning a team-best 269.00 points in the 1-meter dive. After the 1-meter dive, the Seawolves wasted no time to get ahead by capturing a victory in the 200 medley relay with the team of senior Reagan MacDonald, graduate Jessica Salmon, freshmen Michelle Vu, and Alanna DePinto.

Leading the way for the Seawolves was Vu, junior Mary Kate Conway, and Salmon all picking up victories. Vu and Conway had a team-high three victories. The freshman finished in first-place in the 50 free, 100 butterfly, and 200 IM. Conway was victorious in the 200 free, 200 butterfly, and 500 Free. Salmon had herself two victories, as she touched the wall first in the 100 breast and 200 breast.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Stony Brook got the meet off with a bang as it won the 200-medley relay to get the action going. The relay team composed of Salmon, MacDonald, Vu, and DePinto recorded a final time of 1:48.63 to pick up the win.
• Conway secured Stony Brook’s first individual win of the meet as she claimed first-place in the 200 free with a final time of 1:57.19. Conway later picked up a win in the 200 butterfly as she touched the wall in 2:09.42. She also captured a victory in the 500 free, coming in at 5:19.92.
• Vu claimed three victories at University Pool this afternoon, capturing wins in the 50 free, 100 butterfly, and 200 IM. The freshman took the victory in the 50 free after touching the wall at 24.65, finished the 100 butterfly in 58.28 (which was the only time under one minute), and conquered the 200 IM at 2:14.10.
• Salmon secured a pair of individual wins for the Seawolves. The graduate won the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.41 and later claimed victory in the 200 breast at 2:28.65.

“What a special way to send off our seniors! Coming back from our training trip earlier this week our ladies were tired from a tough week of training in Florida. I was beyond impressed with how the team rallied around our seniors and gave them one last win in our house. We look to close out our dual meet season next weekend on a strong note and turn all our focus to our first CAA Championships! We’ll be ready!” said head coach Mark Anderson.

The Stony Brook swimming & diving team is back in action on January 21 at 1 p.m., at NJIT when it heads to Newark, N.J. This will be the final meet of the regular season for the Seawolves before they head to Hampton, Va. for the CAA Championships beginning on February 22.

STONY BROOK, NY – The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams opened competition in the spring semester with dual meets against NJIT and Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at University Pool.

The men’s team came away with a thrilling 145-135 victory over the Highlanders after winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in the final event of the day. The win was supported by a strong end to the meet that included Monmouth taking the top two spots in the 200-yard IM led by Callan Smith and Cole Dyson, before the two combined with Owen Dyson and Thomas Svane-From to win the 400 free relay.

The women’s team suffered a narrow defeat, falling to host Stony Brook 171-123.

MEET NOTES

– Callan Smith won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.77, the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.02 and the 200-yard IM in 1:56.19 to earn his 13th victory of the season and the 86th of his career.

– Cole Dyson won the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.76) to give him four victories on the season and 16 in his career.

– Dean Beyer placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.23. It was Beyer’s fifth win of the season and the seventh of his career.

– Blake Reynolds took first in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 21.50. Reynolds added his eighth win of the year and 32^nd of his career.

– Thomas Svane-From came in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.88. Svane-From won his second race of the season and the 11^th of his career.

– The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay finished first with a time of 3:07.76. Owen Dyson, Thomas Svane-From, Callan Smith and Cole Dyson earned victory.

– Jensen Ritter took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle with her time of 10:54.79. It was Ritter’s fourth win of the season and the ninth of her career.

– Camryn McHugh won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.42 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.15. McHugh won her third race of the season and the 54^th of her career.

– Alexandra Ho placed first in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 54.42. Ho secured her second win of 2022-23 and the 29^th of her career.

– The women’s 400-yard freestyle relay finished first with a time of 3:42.16. Alexandra Ho, Jensen Ritter, Edie Ancell and Camryn McHugh combined for the win.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The NJIT men’s swimming and diving team took part in its first meet of 2023 on Saturday afternoon as the Highlanders faced off against the Monmouth Hawks in a neutral site dual meet on the campus of Stony Brook. Despite some impressive finishes, the Highlanders were narrowly edged out by the Hawks, 145-135.
