The University of Michigan received a big verbal commitment this week from another Indiana stand-out, Vanessa Krause. Krause is primarily a butterflier and has Olympic Trial Qualifying times in three different events. She is the third swimmer from Duneland Swim Club to commit to the Wolverines in recent years. She will be joining Duneland Swim club alumni Kyle and Aaron Whitaker in Ann Arbor next year.
Krause is beginning her senior year at Chesterton High School in Indiana and has enjoyed a lot of success at the High school level over the last three years. She has earned top 5 finishes at the IHSAA Championships in all six of her individual e vents over the first three years of her high school career.
“Michigan felt like my home away from home. The team is great and so welcoming. While I was on campus, I saw a sign that said, ‘those who stay will be champions.’ I’m staying for sure!”
Krause will be filling a big hole and will be able to contribute to the relays immediatley. Last year, Michigan’s top flyer Zoe Mattingly finished the season with a 54.35 in the 100 butterfly. Behind her, the next fastest swimmer was only a 56. Krause’s best time in yards is already a second ahead of Mattingly’s time from the 2014-2015 season, and she will be joining the team right as Mattingly graduates.
