16 Year Old Heitmann Posts 2:00.71 in the 200 Freestyle

The Chico Piscina Trophy is an international competition which includes Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. There are two age divisions; children (athletes born in 2001 and 2002) and youth (athletes born in 1999 and 2000).

The second day of the Chico Piscina Trophy in Brazil saw several meet records tumble. 

One of the most impressive swims of the evening was put up by Maria Paula Heitmann who took the female youth 200 freestyle in a time of 2:00.71. Heitmann beat the meet record of 2:03.34 set last year by Gabrielle Roncatto.

Heitmann’s time is the sixth fastest time in history by a Brazilian female athlete.

She was not the only swimmer to dip under the record time. Rafaela Raurich collected the silver posting a time of 2:02.05.

Maria Sumida of Sao Paulo set a new competition record in the female children 200 IM. Sumida took the event in a time of 2:22.33 beating the old record of 2:23.63 set last year by Luiza Pessanha.

Sumida also took home gold in the 200 freestyle winning the event in a time of 2:06.07.

 

Caio Pumputis achieved a huge feat in the male youth 200 IM breaking a meet record that has stood for 12 years. Pumputis won the event in a time of 2:03.75 taking down the record of 2:04.94 set by Lucas Salatta in 2003.

Fernanda Goeij set a new meet record in the female youth 200 IM posting a winning time of 2:18.72. Goeij beat the record of 2:20.79 set by Julia Gerotto in 2009.

Murito Sortori set a new meet record in the male children 200 freestyle clocking a time of 1:56.93. Sortori broke the record of 1:57.66 set by Andre Santos in 2012.

Two more records were set by the female 4 x 100 freestyle relay teams from Sao Paulo. The children’s team took the event in a time of 3:58.35 while the youth team won in a time of 3:53.34.
