Summer Juniors Qualifier Alexander Cole Commits to Purdue

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alexander Cole, a senior at El Segundo High School in California, has committed to Purdue University for the class of 2027.

I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Purdue University. I want to thank my parents and coaches for helping me through this process and my journey. I’m looking forward to this next part of my life. Boiler Up!”

Cole recently competed at the 2023 Pioneer League Championships, where he won the 200 free and 500 free. He also swims for Alpha Aquatics, and at the March CA/NV Speedo Sectionals he finished 2nd in the 200 free, 3rd in the 50 free, and 7th in the 100 free.

Cole has Summer Junior Nationals cuts in the SCY 500 free and LCM 200 free, Winter Juniors cuts in the LCM 100 free and 400 free, a Winter US Open cut in the SCY 200 free, and Futures cuts in the SCY 50 free, 100 free, 1650, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Best short-course yards times

  • 50 free: 21.02
  • 100 free: 45.10
  • 200 free: 1:35.89
  • 500 free: 4:23.12
  • 1650 free: 15:58.36

Purdue University is a member of the Big Ten Conference. At the 2023 Men’s Big Ten Championships, Purdue finished 6th out of 8 teams. At that meet and with his best times, Cole would’ve made the B final in the 200 free and the C final in the 500 free. In fact, with his best times, Cole would’ve been the 3rd-fastest 200 freestyler on the team this season, and the 2nd-fastest 500 freestyler.

Cole will join Purdue under new head coach Alex Jerden, after longtime coach Dan Ross retired after 38 seasons at the helm of the team. Jerden has amped up recruiting since he joined in 2019, and Purdue has been steadily improving, including during the most recent season, where five swimmers clocked top five times in program history.

Cole joins a couple of other freestylers for the class of 2027. He joins Patrick Broderick and Steven Bendoraitis, distance recruits who excel in the 500, 1000, and 1650. Brody Friend is a sprint recruit, with times of 21.17 and 45.80 in the 50 and 100; AJ Robertson is also a sprint recruit with times of 21.17 in the 50 and 46.43 in the 100. Without another recruit in the mid-distance range, Cole has the ability to distinguish himself among his classmates.

Cole also joins IMers Mason Kajfosz and Sam White in the class of 2027.
