Summer Juniors Qualifier Colin Davis Commits to Division II Tampa

CoFitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Colin Davis from Omaha, Nebraska has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim and study at Divison II University of Tampa beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tampa. Thank you to Coach Quentin and Coach Jimi for this amazing opportunity. A special thank you also goes out to my coaches, family and teammates for their endless support. GO SPARTANS!!!”

Davis swims for iNspire Swim Team out of Elkhorn, NE. Over the summer at the OLY Summer Invite, he swam a best time in the long course 100 backstroke in a time of 58.39. That time also earned him his first Summer Juniors cut. He competed in the event at Summer Juniors and earned a 29th place finish with a time of 59.43.

He continued his success into the fall and earned best times in the 50 freestyle (21.73) and 100 backstroke (49.46) at Winter Juniors West. That was his first time breaking 50 seconds in the 100 backstroke.

Davis began his senior year at Westside High School this fall.

His best short course yards times are:

  • 100 backstroke: 49.46
  • 200 backstroke: 1:52.00
  • 50 freestyle: 21.73
  • 100 freestyle: 46.61
  • 100 breaststroke: 59.45

The University of Tampa is a private university located in Tampa, Florida. The school is a member of the Sunshine State Conference.

The Spartans captured the 2020 Sunshine State Conference title (the 2021 meet did not occur due to COVID-19). Based on his best times, he has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level. His times would have earned him a spot in the ‘A’ final of the 100 backstroke and the ‘B’ final of the 200 backstroke.

He is also just off the NCAA Division II ‘B’ cut of the 100 backstroke as the ‘B’ cut is a time of 49.20. It took a time of 48.12 to earn an invite to the 2021 NCAA Division II Championships.

Davis will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Ben Castro. The team’s top backstroker, Angelo Russo, who represented the team in the backstrokes at 2021 NCAA’s, just graduated this past year.
