Summer Juniors Qualifier Landon Kyser Sends Verbal To Wisconsin (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Landon Kyser has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin for the 2024-2025 season. Kyser is a native of Jacksonville, Florida, where he attends the Bolles School and trains year-round with the Bolles School Sharks.

Kyser shared his commitment on Instagram:

Kyser is extremely versatile, and currently owns summer Junior National qualifying times in the 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM. He’s already opened his long course season this year with a slew of personal best times.

At Sectionals in Orlando, Kyser hit best times of 26.78 in the 50m backstroke and a 4:09.97 in the 400m free. He then went on to race in Fort Lauderdale at the Pro Swim Series, where he notched personal bests in both backstroke events. He dropped nearly two seconds in the 200 to finish 15th overall (2:05.94), and shaved off a second in the 100 to take 20th (57.82).

He had a strong short course season that culminated at Winter Juniors – East in December. He placed 20th in the 200 back (1:46.44) and 34th in the 100 back (49.36), with his 200 marking a personal best by nearly three seconds. He also set a best time by nearly a second in the 100 fly, swimming a 49.40 for 48th. Rounding out his races was the 200 IM, where he reportedly swam a 1:48, but was disqualified.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 free – 46.23
  • 200 free – 1:39.02
  • 100 back – 49.02
  • 200 back – 1:46.44
  • 100 fly – 49.40
  • 200 fly – 1:50.86
  • 200 IM – 1:51.19

The Badgers are coming off of a 4th place finish at the 2023 Big Ten Championships. Junior Jake Newmark led the team this year at Big Tens with two individual victories, winning both 200 free and 500 free. Kyser is currently right on the edge of scoring in the backstroke events, as it took a 48.84 and 1:46.43 to advance at this year’s meet.

Wisconsin’s top performer in the 200 backstroke this season was Newmark, who clocked a 1:40.02 to finish 2nd overall at conference. He was joined by senior Wes Jekel in the A-final, who ended up finishing 5th (1:41.09). Jekel was also the top finisher on the team in the 100 back, coming in 3rd with a 45.80. Assuming Newmark does not take a 5th year, both will be graduated by the time Kyser arrives in Madison.

Joining Kyser in the Badgers’ class of 2028 is Sam Lorenz, Aiden Musick, and Jack Skarda. Skarda is a breaststroker, while Musick is focuses on fly. Lorenz also swims backstroke and owns best times of 46.83 and 1:44.39 in the 100/200 back.
