Summer Juniors-Qualifying Distance Freestyler Max Marcus (2024) Verbals to Princeton

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Max Marcus from St. Louis, Missouri, has announced his verbal commitment to the application process* at Princeton University.

“I am very pleased to announce my commitment to the application process at Princeton University. Thanks you to all my friends, family, and coaches who helped me through this process. I’m honored to be a part of this team and can’t wait to continue my athletic career with Coach Matt and Coach Abby. Go Tigers 🐅🐯!!!”

Marcus attends Kirkwood High School and is the reigning Missouri MSHSAA Boys Class 2 State Champion in the 500 free. At the state meet in November, he won the 500 with 4:28.79, a PB at the time, and placed fourth in the 200 free (1:41.49). He also anchored both freestyle relays (21.56/46.31). Each of these performances marked major improvements from his sophomore year, when he came in fifth in the 500 free (4:40.35) and 12th in the 200 free (1:45.86) and swam splits of 22.60/49.96 on the relays.

Marcus does his club swimming with CSP Tideriders in St. Louis. He followed up his junior-year high school season with PBs in the 200/500/1650 free at 2022 Winter Juniors East (1:40.70/4:26.95/15:31.27) and was a finalist in the 500. In March, he added new lifetime bests in the 100/200/1000 free and 50/200 back at Columbia Sectionals. There, he came in second in the 500 free (4:28.24), fourth in the 1000 free (9:12.99), fifth in the mile (15:32.57), seventh in the 200 free (1:40.98), and ninth in prelims of the 200 back (1:50.35).

Last July, he notched PBs in the LCM 200/400/800/1500 free at NCSA Summer Championships, finishing 38th in the 200 (1:57.34), 8th in the 400 (4:04.32), fifth in the 800 (8:17.82), and sixth in the 1500 (16:05.62).

Best SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 15:31.27
  • 1000 free – 9:12.99
  • 500 free – 4:26.95
  • 200 free – 1:40.46
  • 200 back – 1:50.35

Marcus will join Andrew Zou, Logan Noguchi, Devyn Caples, and Patrick Dinu in the Tigers’ class of 2028. His times would already score at the conference level in the 1650 free (top-16), 1000 free (top-16), and 500 free (C final).

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
