March 07th, 2025 News

2025 PRO SWIM SERIES — WESTMONT

After narrowly missing the U.S. Open Record in the 200 fly yesterday, Summer McIntosh left no doubt today. The 18 year-old Canadian swimmer knocked almost two seconds off of her own U.S. Open, storming away to a 4:26.98 to win the 400 IM by 18 seconds tonight in Westmont. McIntosh opened up a multiple-body length lead by the end of the fly leg, and she continued to extend the lead the entire rest of the way.

Her time tonight was faster than the 4:27.71 she swam to win gold last summer in Paris and stands as the #4 performance ever.

Why does she sound so uncertain about where she’s going to train next given that she’s already told us she’s going to visit bob bowman and he’s the logical choice?

Is it possible that Bowman agrees to let her train temporarily but said he won’t represent her in 2028 because he wants to be a US coach in LA? And so she wants to train with Bowman but is also keeping her eye out for a longer term option?

I believe it’s called “ playing your cards close to your vest”.

It’s a big decision for Summer and I’m sure she’s weighing all of her options one of which is the possibility of joining Bob Bowman’s pro group in Texas.

The current best and most versatile swimmer, male or female. Period.

100% genuine generational talent.

It’s not a stretch to say she could break the world record in the 200 IM

All I can say is watching this on peacock doesn’t do the swim justice watching it in person was something I never thought I’d see. She Ledecky’d the entire field by almost 20 seconds

Bowman is winning the LA 2028 Swimming medal table, and we’re in for a treat at Canadian trials and Singapore this year…

It’s not guaranteed that she’s going to Texas. She’s looking at multiple options.

Her sister skates for Spain now (pairs skating), so there is a connection to that country in her family.

She seems very intelligent. I can’t see her going anywhere other than Texas honestly.

I just want to watch the two part episodes of Practice and Pancakes on Fly and Back days with Regan and Summer.

I have so much respect for both athletes. Summer is my absolute #1, but I also respect Regan for her consistent good sportsmanship.

It must be tough for Regan to swim fastest and second fastest times ever and not winning individual Olympic gold, just like Cate Campbell

Truly some bad luck for her to face the two biggest stars in literally all of her events. Thinking of the wide range of elite swimmers Summer can beat – Douglass, Ledecky, Smith.. quite a range of events covered.

Regan seems to have overcome her nerves, and I think she still has potential to win individual Olympic gold.

That’s what everyone said before Paris. Definitely could happen but it’s an uphill climb.

She hasn’t raced against McKeown since Paris except for that 50 back SCM on in the first day of World Cup, and Kaylee beat her.

She lost Summer in this meet.

The real test if she’s overcome her nerves will be Singapore.

I wonder if Bowman will train them separately.

I remember Richard Quick had to train Dara Torres and Jenny Thompson separately, and Dean Boxall trains Ariarne Titmus and MOC separately.

There are only 24 hours in a day

Separate pools.

Just like what Richard Quick and Dean Boxall did.

SPW only has 1 pool and it’s mainly just broken up by different distance groups in different lanes
