2025 TYR Pro Swim Series — Westmont

Summer McIntosh just posted the #1 time in the world this season in the 200-meter fly, and she did it during a prelims swim to boot.

The Canadian superstar turned in a time of 2:06.40 in her race at the Pro Swim Series – Westmont this morning to secure the top spot heading into finals. Her performance today would have placed 4th at the Paris Olympics, where she won gold in this event, and was even faster than her prelims time at the Games (2:07.70).

McIntosh launched herself to the top of the world rankings, overtaking Australia’s Brittany Castelluzzo, who previously held the fastest time this season after swimming  2:07.75 at the Queensland Championships back in December.

Top 5 2024-2025 LCM Women’s 200 Fly

  1. Summer McIntosh (CAN) – 2:06.40
  2. Brittany Castelluzzo (AUS) – 2:07.75
  3. Helena Rosendahl Bach (DEN) – 2:08.41
  4. Umi Ishizuka (JPN) – 2:08.45
  5. Keanna Macinnes (GBR) – 2:09.78

Taking it out in 1:00.25, McIntosh had the fastest opening 100 in the field and led by nearly four seconds at the halfway mark before bringing it home in 1:06.15. Her performance was over four seconds faster than that of runner-up qualifier Regan Smith (2:10.56), who now ranks 9th on this season’s world rankings.

McIntosh and Smith can both be expected to turn in even faster times tonight as they gear up for a rematch from the Olympics, which saw Smith claim silver.

I’m thinking the next rising swimmer after Summer is going to be Rylee Erisman.

Well if you down vote this, tell me who you think is going to be the next rising female swimmer.

they’re just at completely different levels. Rylee has a good shot at making the Worlds team at age 15, Summer at the same age 3 years ago won 2x individual gold and an individual silver

There’s a young Chinese girl swimming in Canada right now that is breaking some of Summer’s age group records there. Don’t remember her name but she has come up before in some Swimswam articles

Isn’t she not a canadian citizen tho? so she couldn’t represent canada internationally

I don’t know but we weren’t discussing the next Canadian swimming star, just who might be the next big female swimming superstar.

I am interested if Xu’s family is going to stay in Canada and if she’ll pursue Canadian citizenship though!

Represent canada (possibly as top 6 swimmer for 100 free relay) is her best shot to participate the LA olympics. Her 50 free last weekend was just .05 slower than Canadian age group record.

I heard she will be splitting time between her club and IU.

I would love to see both of these swimmers in the 2:04 tonight! Exciting to see they could be training partners! Their 200 fly will improve for sure

I think Summer McIntosh is going to start doing some crazy stuff. I think with the great Olympics, her solidifying herself as the best female swimmer on the planet, she’s going to be that much looser and unleash some wild times.

I think that’s a lukewarm take at best these days.

i’m honestly surprised its not being pushed back on as much. lots of marchand fanboys here plus his olympics were magic.

Prob would give a slight edge to Summer over Marchand since Summer is world class in 7 events 200/400/800 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 200/400 IM, while Marchand is world class in 5 events: 100/200 breast, 200 fly, 200/400 IM even though Marchand did have a better Olympics

After that 800 free I’d have to go with Summer right now. If I HAD to choose. Doesn’t matter though. Exciting thing is they’re both getting better.

It’s difficult to compare male vs female. 2 different categories. She is definitely the best female swimmer, and the most versatile, by far. It’s very exciting to see what she does this year.

Agree, no fan of this young woman, but impossible to argue that she is best LCM swimmer in the world right now and unless she pulls a missy franklin and get so badly injured she cannot swim anymore we are going to see amazing things continue for her.

Not a fan? She doesn’t swim the ‘right way’ to your liking?

I’ve been consistent that it’s her attitude I don’t like

What don’t you like in her attitude?

Behind the scenes or in front of camera? Her interviews have been amongst the most mature, polite, genuine, well spoken, respectful and driven at same time of anyone her young age I’ve ever heard.

Behind the scenes trying to be a world class athlete takes a level of drive and determination that can easily be labeled as selfishness. All while still a child/teenager trying to grow up somewhat in the spot light!

Have you ever met her?..attitude? I’ve watched her swim since she was very young and never seen any kind of attitude?.I,m not sure I like your attitude towards a young swimmer who has never done you any harm.

This Tani character is slandering Summer for no reason at all and should be reported.

Slandering a person’s character repeatedly while not being able to back it up with any sort of evidence should not be tolerated on this platform. It is very damaging to a person’s reputation to do that and so easy to hide behind a “Tani” anonymous moniker. Jealousy is a green eyed monster.

I dont agree with anything you say. I am a huge fan of Summer McIntosh and she is ALWAYS poised and gracious in her interviews, and at the finish line of her races and on the podium.

agreed! i hesitate to make a prediction for the time she will go tonight but her taking 1x event a day only- canadian trial type of schedule- and going 2:06 this am when there is no need to push it tells me that was a cruise swim and there is a lot more in the tank for tonight…
