Canadian teenage sensation Summer McIntosh is quickly finding her groove in short course yards racing.
While she swims in yards with Sarasota Sharks, since moving her training base to Florida in October, this is her first competition in the SCY format. McIntosh kicked off the evening session of Day 1 with a 23.62 50 fly split on Sarasota’s third-place 200 medley relay. The only swimmer in the field faster than McIntosh was Carmel Swim Club’s Alex Shackell (22.83), who contributed to Carmel’s meet record in the event.
In the next event, the 800 free relay, Carmel had built up a monster lead over the first three legs and led Sarasota by 5.2 seconds when McIntosh stepped up to the block. She erased 1.71 seconds on her first 50, 1.5 seconds on her second 50, 1.99 seconds on her third 50, and went 3.59 seconds faster than Carmel on her final 50 to put Sarasota in front by 3.44 seconds at the end.
Her splits were:
22.75
25.27 (48.02)
25.91 (1:13.93)
26.26 (1:40.19)
According to USA Swimming, McIntosh’s split of 1:40.19 is the seventh-fastest all-time, and the only one in the top 25 list not done by an NCAA swimmer.

McIntosh will begin her individual events on Thursday. She is entered in the 200/500 free, 200 back, and 100/200 fly over the next three days.
summer mcintosh will become a female michael phelps (respectively.) she’s jaw dropping at every meet in every event, and she’s improved a drastic amount in 2022.
So you are predicting a nearly two-decade long int’l swimming career for Summer, followed by mental illness, are you?
WTF?
No they’re saying that she will get two DUIs and then marry Mr. California…
Best check your top time there, missing Missy Franklin. How do you forget that?
relay splits only
Summer could be the star of the 2024 Olympics. Gold medal in the 200 Free, 400 Free (ahead of Titmus then Ledecky), and 400 IM.
No pressure though…
I believe sims gonna be the favorite in the 200 free
definitely competition, first the 1:54.6 relay split and now a 1:40.7 SCY flat start. No way she’s the favorite right now though but tbh in a year and a half who knows
Lol Titmus is light years ahead of them
Gold 200 fly and 400 im, silver 400 free (Titmus).
I’m pretty sure Ledecky ,Summer and Titmus gonna win at least two gold at Paris.
Yeah but I also think Ledecky and Titmus gonna win at least two gold at Paris and other than the battles in 400 free , the two of them also gonna battle on 800 free relay and the relay event is the only event Summer gonna struggles to win gold because USA and Australia is ahead of Canada.
I wouldn’t count canada out for relay gold in those events. They have been very hit or miss with athletes preforming well at the same time but if Summer, Penny, Ruck and Rebecca Smith are all firing at the same time thats four women who can easily win
1:54 or better for Summer, Ruck and Penny
1:55 for Smith
I think the one relay they could win based on what happens at last year Olympics is medley relay cause they only has slow breaststroke and if they improved on that they could become unstoppable and in 800 free relay they have a good squad but I still think it’s the battle between Us , Australia and China and I don’t remember the last time Canada has ever won a relay at world champs and I don’t think they ever won Olympics gold in women relay and unless they start winning next year and even with Summer , it still be hard to beat the other three teams at Paris.
Well unless you think Canada can beat Us , Australia or even China on 800 free relay cause there’s no evidence of that and sure Summer can go faster but the relay gonna be hard for her to win and yes I do think the three contenders racing for 400 free can win at least two gold in Paris.
200 fly?
Think she breaks 1:42 in her Indy 200?
Brutal for the Carmel swimmer trying to hold the lead.
We will not blame the Carmel swimmer, if she had gone faster, Summer would have gone under 1:40.
