Adriel Sanes will transfer to Auburn University in the fall after his graduation from Denver University this spring.
“I am very excited to announce that I will be continuing my passion for swimming at Auburn University! After graduation at DU, I will be going to Auburn to do a masters in Engineering Management-Manufacturing. I want to thank Coach Gary for giving me the opportunity to continue to compete at the collegiate level for another year. I can’t wait to compete for this AUsome university! War Eagle🦅”
Sanes made his announcement a day before it was announced that Gary Taylor would be leaving Auburn, mentioning Gary Taylor by name.
After graduating from Manvel High School in Texas in 2017, Sanes went to Denver. He made his mark on the Pioneers’ program right away, winning the 200 breast with a record-breaking time of 1:56.24 and placing 2nd in the 200 IM (1:48.37) and the 100 breast (54.00) at the 2018 Summit League Championships. In 2019, he won the 200 breast again (1:58.34) and the 100 fly (47.70) and was runner-up in the 100 breast (54.46). As a junior in 2020, he won his third 200 breast title (1:55.70) and his first 100 breast title (1:55.70) and was runner-up in the 200 IM (1:47.90). He broke Summit League records in 2020 in the 100/200 breast and as a member of the 200 free and 200 medley relays. He also broke Denver program records in the 100/200 breast, 200/400 free relays, and 200 medley relay.
Sanes qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division I Men’s National Championships in the 100 breast and 200 breast before it was canceled due to COVID-19. He was set to swim in the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Sanes represents the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team internationally. He swam at FINA Short Course World Championships in 2018 and FINA World Championships in 2019. He is a U.S. Olympic Trials Wave I qualifier in the 100m breast (1:02.91 from 2019 Worlds) and the 200m IM (2:16.40 from 2019 Pan Am Games).

I wasn’t aware the USVI had its own qualifiers internationally. But also he can compete at the US Olympic trials?
LOL
Gary got fired ?? Why? he was amazing
You can’t blame Gary for being hired at a job, that he wasn’t qualified for. Blame the search committee and the guy who signed his contract. Then blame the administrator that received numerous complaints about his behavior, from day one, and did nothing to correct the problem. Another situation where the administration just doesn’t understand the effects of chlorine on the brain.
Uh thanking Gary who’s no longer there???? Ight
He made his commitment the day before Gary was released. The article got it wrong saying the day after Gary was released.
I do believe he actually committed the day before Gary was fired.
Thanks Gary? Who wants to tell him?
