Swedish National Junior Teamer Emma Sundstrand Commits to Miami Hurricanes

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emma Sundstrand of Rönninge, Sweden has committed to swim at the University of Miami beginning in the 2020-2021 season. The Hurricanes’ head swimming coach Andy Kershaw shared, “We’re excited to add Emma to next year’s team. I think, first and foremost, she’s the right person for the team. She’s going to be a good teammate and a good addition to the culture that we’re building. That, I think, was one of the big driving factors.”

While a student at Rönninge Skola, Sundstrand competed for Södertälje Simsällskap. According to the University of Miami’s announcement, she was a member of the Swedish Junior National Team at both the European Junior Championships and the Nordic Junior Championships. She has earned a bronze medal in the 50m breast at the Swedish National Championships.

Top Times (Converted from SCM to SCY):

  • 50 breast – 28.22
  • 200 IM – 2:02.69
  • 200 free – 1:51.10
  • 100 breast – 1:03.14

Sundstrand will be joining a program that features many other international swimmers and divers. They currently have 7 international students representing 6 different countries: England, Canada, Spain, Finland, Serbia, and France. Coach Kershaw noted, “We’ve had a long run of successful Swedish swimmers here, and we haven’t had one since Julia Schippert left, so I’m excited to be able to continue that tradition here at The U.”

Sundstrand’s breaststroke will be a strong addition to the roster. She will be close to the team’s top returning swimmer Zorry Mason in both the 50 and the 100 breast, as well as the 200 IM. Her 200 free time places amongst the top swimmers, giving her a chance at a spot on the team 800-free relay. In the fall, Sundstrand will be joining freestyle specialist Savannah Barr as a member of the Hurricanes’ class of 2024.
