Swim Coaches Base Podcast Opens the Vault

The Swim Coaches Base Podcast, powered by RITTER, is quickly approaching 300 episodes. But many of the episodes from years’ past aren’t available prior to ones released this past year.

Each day, for the remaining days of 2019, RITTER Sports Performance will be releasing episodes from the vault. These will only be available until the end of the year and will be found exclusively on Apple Podcasts.

There are many great coaches that you may not have even realized were previously on the Swim Coaches Base Podcast.

Here’s are just some of the guests that are now available:

  • David Costill is a researcher in Exercise Science at the Human Performance Laboratory in Ball State University. David received his B.S. Ed. in Biology and Physical Education at Ohio University in 1959, his M. Ed. in Biology and Physical Education at Miami University in 1961 and his Ph. D. in Physiology at Ohio State University in 1965. His career started off with a combination of teaching biology as well as coaching swim to various schools and clubs. In 1966, David began the Human Performance Laboratory at Ball State University. Since then, he has traveled both nationally and internationally to grow his research and present his findings. He has over 400 publications in peer-reviewed journals, lay publications, and 6 books (translated into 14 different languages). David has also received countless awards and honors for his achievements in his research.
  • Norm Wright is now with the NOVA Aquatics but was previously the head coach (and CEO) of the Northern Kentucky Clippers. Coach Norm is in the top 3 percent of coaches due to his ASCA Level 5 coach rank. Norm has spent 4 seasons with the Clippers and within his first 3 seasons, he managed to provide 6 swimmers with the opportunity to swim at the 2016 Olympic Trials. Along with various competitive success, Wright has implemented the “Clippers Development Model” to the organization. The “Clippers Development Model” is a concerted effort between the Clippers Board of Directors, the lead coaching staff, and USA Swimming to apply long-term athlete development principles in a way that resonates with the culture of swimming in Northern Kentucky and surrounding areas. Prior to Coach Wright’s arrival in Kentucky he served as the Head Coach of the Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club (SMAC) and Director of Competitive Swimming and Aquatics at the Waynesboro Family YMCA. Wrights coaching tenure includes stops at Georgetown University, the FISH, Coffman YMCA, Lima YMCA, and Asbury University his alma mater, class of 2003.
  • Paul Yetter is the Director of Coaching Mentorship with RITTER as well as the current Head Senior Coach for the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Coach Yetter accepted the position for Head Senior Coach at NBAC in November of 2016. Prior to his career at NBAC, Paul was the Head Coach of T2 Aquatics from starting in 2010 and ending just before his start at NBAC. Coach Yetter is a 7-time member of USA Swimming’s National Team Coaching Staff and he has represented the USA as an assistant coach at the 2008 Olympic Games, 2007 Japan Open, the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships and the 2005 World Championships. Coach Yetter has represented USA swimmers in every major International Competition enabling his athletes to win medals at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, World University Games, Pan American Games, Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the FINA World Youth Championships.
  • Rick DeMont is a co-founder of DeMont Family Swim. Rick has over 45 years of involvement in the sport of swimming – he has been a swimming participant, competitor, student, teacher and coach. Over the years, he has collected numerous titles such as National, Pan-American, World and Olympic champion. Although he retired from the University of Arizona after more than 30 loyal years, he continues to help swimmers around the world. Rick is currently consulting, teaching swimming, fishing and painting.
  • Beth Winkowski is an Associate Head Coach for the Dynamo swim team. Coach Beth has been with the Dynamo team since the fall of 2004. She is responsible for coaching the Age Group 1 Gold and Senior 2 at Chamblee. Prior to joining Dynamo, Beth served as Head Coach for the Portland Aquatic Club – this is where she started her professional coaching career. Beth has coached state, sectional and Zone champions at both individual and team levels.
  • Susan Teeter is the former head coach from Princeton University. Prior to retiring, Susan spent over 30 years at Princeton and 40 years coaching! Coach Teeter has racked over 224 dual meet victories and she guided Princeton to 17 Ivy League titles.
  • Austin Surhoff was previously a coach at the University of Virginia and is now a volunteer assistant coach for Johns Hopkins Men’s Swimming Team. Prior to joining the Blue Jay swim team, Austin was a two-time NCAA Division I Champion, US National Team Member and Olympic Trials finalist. Through his swimming career (age 8 to 25), Austin trained with the North Baltimore Aquatic Club as well as the Texas Longhorns.
  • Dan Schemmel was recently named the Head Men’s coach for Stanford. Previously he was the head coach of the University of Hawai’i swimming and diving program. Schemmel is only the 7th head coach for the combined men’s and women’s team since 1987! Coach Dan had immediate success in his first year at Hawai’i by earning Coach of the Year honors and leading the Rainbow Wahine to their first conference championship since 2015. Hawai’i swimmers broke a total of eight school records and recorded 41 top-10 times in program history. Prior to joining the University of Hawai’i in 2016, Schemmel was an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin. Dan also spent time as an assistant coach at his alma mater Michigan State and as a volunteer assistant at the University of Arizona.
  • Jeanne Fleck is the head coach for Fresno State Swimming & Diving. She was named the head coach in 2008 and during her tenure, Jeanne’s teams have broken 18 out of 20 individual program records and all five relay records. Prior to Fresno State, Coach Fleck was the head women’s swimming and diving coach at Ohio State University.
