Swim Ireland are delighted to announce Gourmet Fuel as the Official Nutrition Partner of Swim Ireland and the Rio 2016 Focus Squad. In a sport that rests on a difference of milliseconds, nothing can be left to chance.
This partnership will ensure the highest possible level of nutrition for a group Irish swimmers and divers trying to achieve their Olympic dream through tailored meal plans, consistent monitoring and continual education. This significant six-figure partnership will be perfectly timed with preparations for the Games next year.
John Treacy, CEO of the Irish Sports Council remarked at the launch, “This is a fantastic deal for Swim Ireland and their athletes. We’re delighted to see an innovative Irish company, so closely linked with sport and performance, getting involved in helping fuel these athletes and also promoting a culture of healthy nutrition at a grass-roots level.”
Speaking at the launch today Swim Ireland CEO, Sarah Keane, lauded the new deal stating, “Elite international swimming is one of the toughest sports in the world in terms of the physical demands it places on our athletes, the level of training required and the myriad of factors which go into producing top performances. This partnership takes care of one whole major factor for our athletes – nutrition – which we hope will have a knock on effect in other areas – recovery, time management, injury prevention. Our approach has been a holistic one and we are looking to complete all the steps which will unlock consistent international success. Gourmet Fuel and their outlook very much fit into that approach and we are delighted to be working with them to help make a large step towards that end goal.”
“Good nutrition allows athletes to not only perform in competition at their optimum but gives them the capacity to maintain great energy through their daily training, which can involve up to six hours a day”, explains Swim Ireland National Performance Director, Peter Banks. “Having Gourmet Fuel providing nutritious meals daily for Swim Ireland athletes will allow them to train at their best every single day and we are delighted to have them on board.”
Gourmet Fuel is the first company of their kind in Ireland to provide entire precision focused meal plans for athletes. This removes the stress and hassle of food preparation and monitoring from the athletes and guarantees a precise balance of macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients from all natural food sources.
“As a health and nutrition company, it is a dream come true to work with Swim Ireland and the High Performance athletes in advance of the Olympic Games in Rio and to provide helpful advice and services to swimmers around the country!”, enthused Robert Buckley, Managing Director of Gourmet Fuel. “We understand the extraordinary demands on a swimmer’s body and energy requirements for performance and for day after day of training. Nutrition is a huge aspect of an athlete’s performance and indeed their recovery.
We look forward to helping improve the chances of success in Rio and closely working alongside Swim Ireland, the support team at the Institute of Sport and the athletes themselves, by managing this part of the squad’s Olympic preparations and providing them with delicious, nutritious and convenient meals – a lot of them!”
