Swim Job: Ukiah Dolphins seeks Head Swim Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ukiah Dolphins, teamlogoThe Head Coach will be responsible to the club’s Board of Directors for providing a competitive swim program in line with the objectives and purpose of the organization.

***The Ukiah High School Swim Coach job is also available.

The expectations of the Head Coach are as follows:

WORKOUTS

o Provide high level coaching and training to all athletes.
o Conduct a minimum of one 2-hour practice session per day, Monday through Friday, September through May.
o Offer two 2-hour practice sessions per day, Monday through Friday, June through August.
o Coordinate practice schedules with the Ukiah Unified School District to ensure use of the pool when needed.
o Oversee the coaching of all groups, directly coach a minimum of one group.
o Manage all coach’s schedules to ensure coverage of all groups due to illness, vacation, etc.
o Supervise the behavior of swimmers during all practice sessions.
o Notify the club president of any serious misconduct that needs the Board’s attention.
o The Head Coach, or their daily representative, shall remain at the pool complex after scheduled practices until all swimmers under the age of 13 have left under the supervision of an adult.
o Maintain practice attendance records.

ASSISTANT COACHES

o Recommend hiring, compensation and firing of assistant coaches to the Board.
o Develop and train all assistant coaches.
o Develop continuing education programs.
o Manage the coaching staff to provide an excellent program for our athletes.
o Make sure that all coaches are current on all USA Swimming requirements to be an on-deck coach.

SWIM MEETS

o Submit an annual meet schedule of target meets for all athletes.
o Work with a board representative to get the dates out to the athletes in a timely manner.
o Attend both days of 2-day target meets; coordinate coaching staff to ensure coverage of all meets throughout the year.
o Submit meet results to club awards coordinator.

SWIMMER CONDUCT

o Ensure all athletes feel safe in the pool and the pool deck and in the locker rooms.
o Handle misconduct fairly and effectively.

MEETINGS

o Attend monthly Board meeting and make monthly reports.
o Upon Board request attend other meeting related to the club.

COMMUNICATION

o Keep parents and athletes informed of meet and practice schedules.
o Make time available to meet with parents and athletes.
Recruitment and team growth
o Responsible for the growth and sustainability of the swim program.
o Work with the Board and parents to recruit and maintain athletes.
o Participate in fundraising activities.

MISCELLANEOUS

o Recommend awards programs to the board.
o Work with the budget committee on an annual budget.
o Work with pool facilities staff to ensure proper care of the facility.
o Help maintain all pool equipment and inform Board or UUSD if replacements are needed.
o Assist athletes with College selection.
o Continue to develop and grow as a coach, work to achieve next level of certification

REQUIREMENTS

o Competitive swimming coaching experience with a strong knowledge of stroke mechanics
o 4 year college degree is highly desirable
o Maintain a professional demeanor, provide leadership and exhibit a positive, team building attitude
o Observe and instruct swimmers in proper stroke technique
o Be able to lift and move heavy pool cover and lane line equipment
o CPR/first aid certification and athlete protection training
o USA Swim coaching certifications, ASCA level III, and background checks
o Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, staff, and parents

SALARY

o Salary will be determined based on experience
o Ukiah Dolphins will pay the annual registration; background check, and CPR/first aid training.
