SwimAtlanta’s Blake Atmore Verbally Commits to University of Georgia

Blake Atmore, the three-time South Forsyth High School Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Year and three-time USA Scholastic All-American, has verbally committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. His specialty strength in the Fly and Back will contribute to Bulldog depth in the 2015-2016 season.

“I feel like UGA gives me a great chance to be successful and reach my goals athletically, as well as academically,” Atmore said. “I’m so blessed to be able to swim for such a great program and I cannot wait to be a Dawg!”

Capitalizing on his prowess in Fly and Back, Atmore was 9th in the 100 Fly and 4th in the 100 Back at the Georgia 6A High School State Championships in February. Some of his top times over his last few high school seasons are:

50 yd Free: 21.00 (relay)

100 yard Free: 46.49 (relay)

200 yard Free: 1:42.30

100 yard Back: 50.28

200 yard Back: 1:47.77

100 yard Fly: 49.49 (relay)

Atmore’s fast rate of progress is something to especially watch out for. He played a number of different sports up until the start of high school, including basketball. It wasn’t until his freshman year that he decided to focus solely on swimming. Ever since his first year, his success in the pool has been rapid.

100 yard Back

Freshman: 55.06

Sophomore: 51.66

Junior: 50.28

200 yard Back

Freshman: 2:00.00

Sophomore: 1:52.66

Junior: 1:47.77

It will be exciting to see what sort of improvements Atmore can do in his first season of competition after training in the pool with the likes of his new Bulldog backstroker teammates Ty Stewart and Jared Markham.
