SwimMAC Carolina won the men’s 800 free handily tonight in Greensboro, with Tim Connery (18), Logan Zucker (18), Jacob Wimberly (16), Baylor Nelson (18) teaming up for a 7:22.13. The swim breaks the 15-18 boys National Age Group Record (NAG), which was held by the Mason Manta Rays.
Here is the split comparison between SwimMAC’s relay tonight, and Mason Manta Rays’ relay from 2019:
SwimMAC Carolina 2021 Speedo Summer Championships | Splits | Mason Manta Rays 2019 OH PHST LC Senior Champs | Splits | |
1st leg | Tim Connery | 1:47.96 | Adam Chaney | 1:53.16 |
2nd leg | Logan Zucker | 1:51.81 | Jacob McDonald | 1:52.06 |
3rd leg | Jacob Wimberly | 1:52.09 | Jacob Foster | 1:51.19 |
4th leg | Baylor Nelson | 1:50.27 | Carson Foster | 1:48.11 |
Final Time | 7:22.13 | 7:24.52 |
Notably, Tim Connery led the SwimMAC squad off tonight in a huge personal best of 1:47.96. The swim ranks Connery #11 all-time in the 17-18 age group. Even more importantly in the context of the NAG Record, Connery, SwimMAC’s fastest split, was even faster than Carson Foster, Mason Manta Rays’ fastest split, was despite Connery swimming on the lead-off and Foster on the anchor.
Here is a split breakdown of the SwimMAC relay compared to each swimmer’s personal best flat-start 200 free:
Swimmer | Relay Split | Personal Best |
Tim Connery | 1:47.96 | 1:51.67 |
Logan Zucker | 1:51.81 | 1:51.77 |
Jacob Wimberly | 1:52.09 | 1:54.85 |
Baylor Nelson | 1:50.27 | 1:49.28 |
As you can see, Connery’s lead-off split was massive. He swam nearly 4 seconds under his previous best to get his squad out to a phenomenal start. Jacob Wimberly, the youngest member of the team, also split well under his previous best (1.76 seconds). Zucker was just 0.04 seconds slower than his flat-start best, while Nelson’s anchor was actually about a second off his personal best.
Congrats, SwimMAC! ππͺπ
