SwimMAC Girls Take Down Another NAG Relay Record

The girls from SwimMAC Carolina have taken down another National Age Group Relay Record, with this one coming on Friday night – 24 hours after breaking three in the 800 free relay.

The team of Kathleen BakerRebecca PostollHeather Merritt, and Lauren Rhodes combined for a 3:18.55 in the 400 yard free relay.

That broke the Sectional Record, set by a very different relay (only Baker and Rhodes are holdovers) last year, and also broke the 17-18 National Age Group Record of 3:19.55 set in 1981 by a Mission Viejo relay that included the great Sippy Woodhead.

That means that SwimMAC has broken the two oldest National Age Group relay records on the books in a little over a day’s time – records that stood for 33 years untouched.

The SwimMAC splits:

  • Baker – 48.20
  • Postoll – 49.55
  • Merritt – 50.75
  • Rhodes – 50.05

The 15-18 record, which allows for younger swimmers to participate, still stands at 3:16.58 from PASA. SwimMAC again was gunning for a one-two punch by putting their top 16-year old on the “B” relay, but that team came up short in 3:21.87. Had SwimMAC put together their four best, they probably would have come close to that PASA record, but wouldn’t have necessarily broken it.
