Breaststroker/IM’er Albury Higgs of SwimMAC Carolina has chosen to swim for the South Carolina Gamecocks next fall. Higgs finished 3rd at the North Carolina 4A HS Championships in the 200 IM and also swam fly on Hough HS’s 6th place 200 medley relay.
“South Carolina is the total package for me. I loved the campus, city and swim team and coaches. And I can’t wait to be a part of the Gamecock family.”

Higgs is a Bahamas native– she represented her country at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships, posting a 20th place finish in the 100 breast and touching 24th in the 50 breast, 25th in the 200 breast, and 33rd in the 200 IM. A few weeks prior to this, at the U.S. Junior National Champs, Higgs posted a 28th place finish in the 200 breast and grabbed 36th in the 100 breast.
Last year at the SEC Championships, Higgs would’ve been South Carolina’s #2 200 IMer and 100 breaststroker and #4 200 breaststroker. With her times now, she also would’ve just missed SEC C finals in the breaststrokes.
Higgs plans to continue representing the Bahamian national team through her college years, which she says was well-received by the South Carolina coaching staff who plan to work with her busy schedule. Higgs joins her SwimMAC teammate Christina Lappin along with Ana Menéndez, Emily Cornell, and Jordan MacDonald, making for an already very talented class.
