SwimMAC’s Jane Donahue Gives Verbal Commitment to Penn State

Three-time North Carolina Independent Schools 1A2A state champion Jane Donahue has committed to swim at Penn State University for 2017-18 and beyond.

“I’m thrilled to verbally commit to swim for Penn State! I’m so grateful to have this opportunity and thankful to everyone who has helped me throughout the years! I cannot wait to be a Nittany Lion!”

Donahue is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Christ the King Catholic High School in Huntersville, North Carolina. At the NCISAA 1A2A State Championships in February 2016, Donahue won her second state title in the 200 IM (2:06.44) and her first in the 100 breast (1:03.52). She also contributed to Christ the King’s medley and 200 free relays, both of which placed second.

Donahue swims year-round at SwimMAC Carolina for David Marsh and Sarah Holman. She had a strong 2015-16 season, improving on her personal bests in all her main events. In short course, Holman earned llifetime-best times in the 100 breast (1:01.92) and 200 breast (2:14.65) at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors East. She placed 5th in the latter. Her long course season was just as successful. At the Futures Championships in Atlanta, Donahue won the consolation of the 100m breast (1:14.25) on Day 2, then came in second in the 200m breast the next day. Seeded with 2:41.63, Donahue took 2 seconds off her time to qualify third for finals. She then improved by another 3.2 seconds, erasing a 1.3-second deficit at the 150 wall to eke out the silver medal by .12.

Donahue’s top SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 1:01.92
  • 200 breast – 2:14.65
  • 100 back – 58.94
  • 200 IM – 2:04.66

Also committed to the Nittany Lions’ class of 2021 are Camryn Barry and Carly Hart.
