Swimmers Impress Coach In First Competition

The inaugural Anderson men’s and women’s swim meet ended with high praise from the first year coach.

“I’m so incredibly proud of this team and what we just accomplished today,” said AU coach Conner Snare. “Across the board we had really good swims and I can’t count the amount of swimmers who surprised themselves with what they accomplished.”

In the Indiana Division III Invitational hosted by Wabash College and held at the Class of 1950 Natatorium in Crawfordsville, Ind., the AU women’s team finished fourth and the men’s team placed sixth.

Snare, who said he wants his team to have fun and a family atmosphere, talked before the school’s first-ever competition that he would have a lot of school records.

“I’m blessed to be in the presence of an entire team of record holders! We’ve set the bar and I look forward to continuing to raise it throughout the season,” said the 23-year old head coach.

The women scored 176 points and finished ahead of Manchester, which had 120. DePauw won the event with 821 points. The men scored 52 points in a six-team event won by DePauw with 702.5 points.

The women’s team got 118 points from relays and had four seventh-place finishes.

In the women’s 200 Yard Medley Relay, Erin Orban, Emma Maubach, Milly Hensley and Elissa Austin picked up 30 points with a seventh place finish. They finished in 2:06.52. Kara Mustard added a seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:07.97. Maubach was seventh in the 100 Yard Breaststroke at 1:17.64. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Maubach, Samantha Case, Elissa Austin and Hensley were seventh in 4:15.73.

The men’s team scored points on two relays. A 13th place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay garnered 26 points. Will Henson, Carter Haupt, Peyton Music and Chandler Mudd clocked in at 2:17.87. A 12th in the 200 Yard Relay also gave the Ravens 26 points. Conner Page, Tristan Wolffe, Collin Barteau and Andrew Taflinger finished the race in 1:55.17.

AU returns to action Nov. 5 against Centre and Franklin, hosted by Franklin.
