After two weeks at a training camp in Barcelona, Spain following the World Championships, the Australian swimming team headed over to Chartres, France on July 11th for a second camp where they met open water swimmers, para swimmers, and Aussie swimmers that were not at Worlds. They spent another two weeks in Chartres before making the move on July 23 to Birmingham, England, the city where the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held.

The swimming portion of the Commonwealth Games is set to begin on Friday, July 29. SwimSwam has previously uploaded video interviews of Mollie O’Callaghan and Zac Stubblety-Cook (courtesy of Swimming Australia), which highlight their practices while in Chartres. You can find O’Callaghan’s interview here and Stubblety-Cook’s here.

At the World Championships in June, Australia finished second in the medal table standings with six golds, nine silvers, and two bronzes. This came despite missing some of their biggest stars, such as Emma McKeon and Ariarne Titmus, who will be on the team come time for the Commonwealth Games. Other athletes, such as Kyle Chalmers (didn’t swim the 100 free, his best individual event, at Worlds), Lani Pallister (missed 800 free due to COVID), and Shayna Jack (left meet early due to hand injury) will also get more racing opportunities in Birmingham.

Check out some of the highlights of Swimming Australia’s Chartres training camp and arrival in Birmingham here.
