The video above with Olympic Swim Coach David Marsh and SwimMAC Olympians Kara Lynn Joyce, Cullen Jones and Nick Thoman was produced by filmmakers Christo Brock and Grant Barbeito, and it is a reminder that their Touch The Wall Kickstarter campaign is still rolling.
So far they have 284 backers and they’ve raised $33,146, however, with 32 days to go they need to meet their $110,000 goal.
At SwimSwam, we’ve rubbed shoulders with Christo and Grant on the road at every major swim meet. While they’re veteran pros at their craft, they’ve also become emotionally invested in swimming. They love the sport. With 400 hours of footage captured profiling 2012 Olympic swim stars Missy Franklin and Kara Lynn Joyce, they have the best possible story, but the expense of editing in post production is enormous. The $110,000 goal is crucial to deliver the narrative.
Missy Franklin did get her Olympic Rings Tattoo. See it here.
More about the Touch The Wall Kickstarter Campaign:
I don’t get it, so were these filmmakers in both Colorado and North Caroline leading up to Trials? How did they end up following two athletes as disparate as Franklin and Joyce?
Joyce was with Stars before moving to MAC. Anybody have any scoop on why she left?
Yep . Too cold. 🙂

They are good friends from when they were on STARS together and before that. Joyce went to STARS to train for Trials with Franklin before MAC. They aren’t that disparate as they both competed in the 50/100 and both made the Olympic team.
That’s true. I forget how versatile Franklin is. After seeijg her swim the 500 in HS and the 200 free and 200 back in the Olympics. I forget that she’s a sprinter too.
She will probably get some action this fall as a sprinter; Cal is obviously hurting for sprint freestylers beyond Pelton and Bootsma, and her 50/100 would top them. But also Cal’s fastest 500 was only a 4:39.7 and Franklin’s 4:34 could have outtouched Anderson to actually win at NCAA yesterday, so she will probably see some action there too. Like Pelton and Bootsma, she’ll be incredibly versatile, but even more so.
