How does Braden say there aren’t many exciting matchups and fail to mention that the gold and silver Olympic medalists in W100 and 200 free will both be there.
Why would Haughey be there?
I highly doubt Sates will bring a “one-and-done” trend like basketball. Swimming makes no money when compared to the NBA or NFL.
Re: Moore – would being the head coach of an Ivy not also at least get you a call w/ Pitt/ND? I mean the more I think about this while typing I can see how being an assistant at a top-tier D1 school might translate a bit more when it comes to recruiting and stuff, idk.
And y’all forgot about Cam McEvoy back halfing his 100s, too.
I don’t think being head coach of a 7th/8th place Ivy gets many calls for Power 5 gigs. He would have to dig them out of that basement, and given the circumstances (many of which are outside of the head coach’s control), that timeline would be a very, very long one.
Why does Loretta interrupt so much, maybe I am ADD but it becomes a lot harder to follow along.
I love her, but yes she interrupts a lot!
Thank you for that one. I have at times left the pod on account of her ramblings, but felt it would be improper to comment on this issue. One thing is the interruption, but maybe more irritating is the lack of insights coupled with all the nervous laughter.
Peanut Gallery:
Jake going pro-Braden says he wants to write a book/article about when coaches should retire! Another book he should write is when a pro swimmer should retire and move on. It goes both ways! Mitchell trained with Carmel before Trials. He also said he is going home before he goes to UF. Maybe he should stay at Carmel this summer since the coach and swimmers he wants to train with will be gone until July 1? Does Loretta really think Mike Bottom coached Jake?
Matt Sates-I think he always planned to go pro after NCAAs. I don’t think he was going to classes. I also think he looked at all the internationals who have medaled have… Read more »
FYI. Tatiana is the girls name of Russian origin. So if you are mentioning in one sentence Russian swimmers and Schoenmaker then it’d better to use her full name.
I know that isn’t easy to remember the correct spelling of such long last name, but for the sake of avoiding confusion try to do so.
We’ve basically known that Titmus is skipping Worlds for months and it’s just been reported elsewhere that Schoenmaker is also skipping Worlds in favour of Comm Games.
I understand that such is a life in competitive swimming at the very top of it: one major meet for the season is quite enough by any considerations. Especially after Olympic season. I understand the desire of Cate Campbell to take a year off being upset after some mishaps and the huge wave of criticism after Olympics in Rio.
But what is the reason of skipping the WC for these two swimmers you mentioned in your post? Last season was exceptionally successful for both of them? The Covid-19 cannot be a factor anymore. The only common thing in both these cases that I see is that they are choosing the meet with lesser competition. Their major competitors won’t be… Read more »
I used commonly accepted at swimswam abbreviation for the World Championships and just realized where I also saw these two capital letters together: WC
Maybe that is the reason not to compete there 😀
Participating in the Comm Games is a far better opportunity than WCs for Australians (and probably a lot of Commonwealth countries).
I guarantee you 99% of the Australian public would have no idea what WCs are. But every single Australian knows what Comm Games are. Representing Australia at the Comm Games would create better sponsorship opportunities and likely be seen as a bigger achievement than going to WCs to the vast majority of Australia. I completely understand why the swimmers are choosing Comm Games over WCs, especially when WCs moved to a really inconvenient time and CGs has stayed on schedule.
It has absolutely nothing to do with avoiding competition lol.
Well, you know that better than me.
Wouldn’t be any Australian swimmers at all in Budapest?
And also do they do it each time when WC and CWG intersect?
If the answers aren’t “yes” and “yes” then your explanation has some problem.
They don’t intersect. CGs are every four years on even years. WCs are every two years on odd years. They’ve never clashed before, and they’re only clashing now because of FINA.
Of course some swimmers are happy to do both. But for swimmers who don’t want to do both, I can certainly see why they would choose CGs. World Champs mean literally nothing outside the extreme swimming super fan community.
