Oh, so I can’t make a funny joke about polar bears but you bring PENGUINS into this?? THEY’RE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE ANIMALS.

Ngl I really liked the aside about how American swimmers are coddled and not used to hard questions. (Though on second-thought, the Australian media turned a whole generation of their swimmers into delicate headcases at big meets, so. Maybe I’m ok with it.)

Hey, in 1972 there was an age grouper and High School swimmer who swam all the events. As a High School senior, All American in every event, as a swimmer at IU made the NCAA cuts in all the events. There were coaches and swimmers even then who cultivated versatility!

Only recent 100M Butterfly podium I can think of with multiple americans is 2011, 1st phelps, 3rd McGill.

And before that, Crocker-Phelps. That one was pretty prolific, 0.01 away from every year from ’03 to ’08.

NCAA-timed final relays? Will they only use 4 lanes like Conferences? If so, faster times would be expected! I assume that alternates taken have to be used like in years past? Do you think Olympics should go to Timed Finals? Then alternates wouldn’t be needed and more even playing field between big and small swimming nations!
Versatility of UVA women and other swimmers at this level. It isn’t a Bowman or Phelps thing. Read up on the history of Nashville Aquatics. They had many many swimmers in the 70s and 80s that could do it all. Remember Caulkins held world records in EVERY discipline.
