Will only look at Sink or Swims
Another Popovici WR at World Jrs ? Coin toss, will go out on a limb and “Swim”
Can Martineghi dethrone Peaty at 2023 Worlds (any event) ? Leaning “Swim”
Can Marrit Steenbergen bring Dutch relays back to international medal contention ? Depends on how you define the question. If we’re talking women’s relays then it’s “Sink”; there’s currently no others anywhere near her level. However, if you are talking ALL relays; then NED MMR is already World Championships medallists in MMR so that says “Swim”. They should remain a competitive unit as NED do have 2 excellent male legs with Kamminga & Korstanje but medals are always a lottery with this relay and… Read more »
Is duel in the pool LCM?
Yes
Thankfully yes.
Peanut Gallery:
Popovici-if any of the writers have ever done any coaching, they would know that puberty at 17 is the best coach. I am not surprised that a 17 yo male improved a half second in a year or a couple seconds in a 200. What I learned from Katie Ledecky in her heyday HS years is that she just approached a meet and trying for best times….her best times just happened to be world records and Popovici’s best times are just at the top of the world.
Sink or Swim:
Popovici-is Lima at altitude? If so, sink if not then maybe (treading)

I do miss Braden’s commentary. Hope he is back soon.
I somehow forgot that Ruta’s literally a month younger than Lily King; just felt like mentioning that.
Coulda asked me six months ago and I’d have guessed there was probably a 5 year age difference.
Sink/Swim: Dressel races at any meet before March 2023.
I think objectively if you went back in time to the 2012 Olympics and you told people that the WR would be set at 46.86 in 2022, it wouldn’t be as surprising as a 3:56.4 w400free, 1:50.3 m200fly, or 2:05.9 m200breast.
But if you delivered the same news as… in 2022, a 17yo would swim a 46.86 and 1:42.97, people would still be like “WTF”.
I think breaking the 100free world record is always a pretty big deal (especially if the record has stood for a long time), and so going 46.8 would’ve been big news regardless if it would’ve been Magnussen in 2012, McEvoy in 2016, Dressel/Chalmers in 2019 or 2021. I think each WR miss made each… Read more »
the surprise about the 100 free wr would be how long cielo’s mark lasted
Popovici’s WR was not a surprise, it was just a matter of time.
It was for me, so many talented guys failed short since 2009 but one skinny 17 year old legend finally took it down
