SwimSwam Podcast: What the NCAA DI System Can Learn From DIII

On SwimSwam Podcast, we’re giving you an in-depth listen at all things swimming. Host Coleman Hodges welcomes guests and guest co-hosts alike to get perspective on our ever-changing swimming universe and break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down to speak with the coaching staff at Franklin College, including head coach Andrew Hendricks and assistant coach Ryan Mullin. They explained the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their program, and those effects might differ from your typical DI program.

Hendricks and Mullin also explained the way their college specifically balances academics and athletics, and we discussed what a DI program might be able to adapt from that model.

The D3 philosophy is a very very well thought out philosophy but some of the comments from the coach in the podcast seem a bit asinine. The school is enrollment driven, but with a possible looming financial crisis, if people are not enrolling in college because they can’t afford tuition(especially that of a private school) even with financial aid, then enrollment will surly take a hit leading to programs being cut.
