SwimSwam Pulse is a recurring feature tracking and analyzing the results of our periodic A3 Performance Polls. You can cast your vote in our newest poll on the SwimSwam homepage, about halfway down the page on the right side, or you can find the poll embedded at the bottom of this post.
Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers to pick the winners of the Women’s ACC Championships:
RESULTS
Question: Who will win the 2020 ACC Women’s title?
- Virginia – 66.8%
- NC State – 23.7%
- Someone else – 2.9%
- Florida State – 2.0%
- Duke – 1.6%
- Notre Dame – 1.5%
- UNC – 1.4%
Two-thirds of voters picked the Virginia Cavaliers to knock off NC State for this year’s ACC Women’s title.
NC State won last year’s title by 71 points over Virginia. But the Cavaliers brought in a loaded freshman class and have sat solidly at #3 in our national Power Ranks much of this season.
Current Swimulator projections show NC State with a lead of about 50 points, but that’s not a huge margin considering both teams are projected to score more than 1100 total points. Swimulator projections also don’t include diving.
Those two programs are the clear class of the field, with Louisville more than 200 points back in the Swimulator.
Below, vote in our new A3 Performance Poll, which asks voters to pick the women’s Big Ten champs:
ABOUT A3 PERFORMANCE
The A3 Performance Poll is courtesy of A3 Performance, a SwimSwam partner
UVA doesn’t have a recorded 800 Free Relay (64 points for first, worst case scenario 54 points (3rd)). That makes the Swimulator projection a pick em. Of course, you know where my loyalty is: I say UVA by 120 points. (Now let’s see how many down votes I can muster.)
1) Who picked a team other than UVA or NCSU?
2) Will be interesting to see how many swimmers on both UVA and NCSU don’t do a full taper but swim thru for the NCAA meet. That could well impact the outcome as both teams have serious NCAA aspirations (and potential championship/finalist possibilities), and in many cases, that could open the door for swimmers from other teams to improve placing.
But competition like this is making the ACC stronger! Let’s hope the full meet is televised live on the ACC network.
I can’t imagine Douglass does a full rest — But I don’t think that will matter much for her given she’s done with no rest.
What does Douglass swim? I’m guessing 2 im and both breaststrokes for NCAAs, but NC State is strong in sprints and 4 IM. She’s got more conference events to pick from than Dressel…
I don’t see 1breast — especially with Wenger already so strong for UVA — and Douglass has “only” dropped a half second in that event this year. If you’re just pickng “best” events, one per day — I’d probably say 2IM, 100 fly, 2 breast. But for NCAAs, given the intensity of the NCAA schedule (and she’s already been 21.5 this season), I could see her doing the 50 at b/c that first full day is brutal with the 2Free relay AND 4Medley relay, which means SIX races that day (and the 50 means a much easier day).
I still think 2IM 1Fly and 2Breast at NCAAs too. UVA can put someone else in the AM for fly on the 400MR and they should still easily make top8. Putting her in 50 is too much of a crap shoot and could potentially knock Hill out of a top 8 spot. She can also back off a good amount in the 2IM in the AM and easily qualify top 8. Another option would be to sit her out of the 2IM or 1fly and have her be a part of all 5 relays.
Should be closer than people think. The difference between B/C/no scoring finals are going to matter very much and NCSU has many non-star swimmers who have solid 3 event lineups. I am also interested to see how UNC does under their new coach. Expecting a great meet.
UNC Women behind Duke and Notre Dame…. ouch.
Ya, but with the top end they’ve got if those girls have a solid meet UNC could be top 4 this year.
Go Pack!
Wolfpack had the platform diving winner last year. And she is back this year to defend. Not exactly a low level scorer.
