There have been a lot of early-season best times already, from all corners of the country. See who made our Daring Dozen for the weekend of June 20-22, 2014.
Adrian Aguilar, 13, Metro Aquatic Club of Miami: 50m free (26.05) – Aguilar won the boys 13-14 50/100/200 free and 100/200 back at the Michael Lohberg Invitational hosted by Coral Springs Swim Club. He registered PBs in every one of those events, and in the 100 breast and 400 IM. The 50 free time was a 1.18-second improvement from his seed time.
Diana Dunn, 14, Austin Swim Club: 100m free (58.25) – Dunn picked up a best time, and was fully 1.2 seconds faster than a year ago, with her third-place finish in the women’s 100 free at Alamo Area Aquatic Association’s LCM Senior Circuit II held at Northside ISD Aquatic Complex
Nikita Tretyakov, 15, Swim Fort Lauderdale: 200m free (1:53.11) – Tretyakov dropped 1.5 seconds from his seed time (achieved at Russian National Championships in May 2014) in prelims, and another 9/10 in finals, to place second in the men’s open 200 free at the STFL International Classic at Ft Lauderdale Aquatic Complex. He also pocketed new times in the 50 free, 400 free and 100 fly.
McKenna Meyer, 15, Reno Aquatic Club: 400m free (4:21.13) – Swimming in the “D” final of the Santa Clara Grand Prix, Meyer achieved her first-ever Summer Juniors cut with a big drop in the 400 free. She shaved nearly four seconds off her seed time to make the final, and another 1.5 to climb four spots, finishing 30th overall.
Brandon Shreeve, 18, Corvallis Aquatic Team: 800 free (8:22.39) –Shreeve went best times in the 200, 400, and 800 frees at Santa Clara Grand Prix. His 800 was more than 20 seconds faster than at this time last year. He was .07 off his best time finaling in the 200 back. Shreeve will join the Utah men’s swimming and diving team in the fall.
Jessica Chu, 11, De Anza Cupertino Aquatics: 1500m free (18:58.44) – Swimming her first long course mile at the Fresno Dolphins Swim Team A/B Modified Long Course Invitational, Chu blazed to the third-fastest time in the country this season for 11-year-old girls.
Ashley Pollok, 15, Blue Tide Aquatics: 100m back (1:04.00) – Pollok won the 100 back and 200/400 IM at the YCF Liberty Open Long Course Meet at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando. She knocked three seconds off her seed time and picked up her first Summer Juniors cut. Pollok also went best times in the 50 free, 200 back, 50/100 fly, and 200/400 IM.
Michael Taylor, 15, Dynamo Swim Club: 200m back (2:03.75) – Taylor dropped 3.4 seconds in prelims and made the “B” final in the 200 back at Santa Clara Grand Prix. He also made the “B” final in the 100 back with a best time, and achieved a PB in the 100 free.
Gabe Cohen, 13, Plymouth-Canton Cruisers: 100m breast (1:12.33) – Swimming at the Motor City Speedway hosted by Motor City Aquatics at Eastern Michigan University, Cohen shaved .66 off his best time and finished sixth in the boys 13 & over 100 breast. He took fifth in the 200. Cohen left the meet with new times in the 100 free, 100 fly, and 400 IM.
Kaito Koyama, 13, Rancho San Dieguito: 200m breast (2:34.77) – Koyama dropped 7.1 seconds off his seed time at the SCS June Age Group Championships hosted by La Mirada Armada. He achieved personal bests in all six events he swam at the meet: 50/100 free, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 400 IM.
Emma Lasecki, 12, Green Bay Swim Club: 200m fly (2:26.61) – Lasecki dropped two seconds and won the girls 11-12 200 fly at Southwest Aquatic Team’s Summer Open at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, WI. She also won the 200 back and 100 breast.
Clarissa Sabin, 11, Berkeley Aquatic Club: 400m IM (5:42.17) – At the Summer Fun Invitational hosted by Long Island Aquatic Club, Sabin made off with best times in the 50 free, 200 breast, 100 fly, and 400 IM. She finished 2nd in the girls 11-12 100 breast, 3rd in 200 breast, 4th in 100 fly, and 3rd in 400 IM.

Thank you for covering my Daughter in this weeks recap, Mckenna had a good Grand Prix making appearances C and D finals. this was her second time swimming in this Grand Prix her first time as a 13 year old. It is hard to get any local press coverage about swimming in any form so we all appreciate your efforts.
Ok. We are a little late with that “weekly wonders” from 2 weeks ago but that’s alright. 🙂

Little correction.
I talked obviously about the 200 back for Mr Lasco.
A few more details.
Correction of the name for Matthew Hirschberger.
I add a good 2.13.99 for Emma Schanz in the 200 back. So she’s a good breast/back swimmer. I never heard of her before Santa Clara.
And I also add a 1.00.43 in the 100 fly and a 2.13.46 in the 200 back for Janet Hu from NCAP. I know she’s a beast in short course but I still wonder what is her real level in long course so it’s promising to see her swim that kind of performances while being untapered. It looks good for August.
Andrew Seliskar was 1:59.98 in the 200 fly at the same meet Hu was at.
Interesting that there are not any swimmers from either the Santa Clara Grand Prix or the Fran Crippen meet. There were definitely some stand out age group swims and swimmers there to say the least.
