Swiss National Maxwell Seidel Commits to Princeton for 2020-21

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maxwell Seidel has announced his verbal commitment to the application process* at Princeton University. He plans to join Billy Swartwout and Xander Gardner in the class of 2024.

“I am beyond excited to officially announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career next year at Princeton University. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teachers for supporting me throughout the years. Go Tigers!”

Seidel is from Lexington, Massachusetts. He graduated from Lexington High School last spring and is spending this year training at one of the Swiss national training centers in Tenero, Switzerland before heading to Princeton in the fall of 2020. Seidel’s mother is from Catania, Italy and his father comes from Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. Seidel was a member of the Swiss National Junior Team for three years and represented Switzerland internationally at 2018 European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki in the 100 breast (44th with 1:07.31), 200 breast (36th with 2:24.84), 200 IM (30th with 2:09.07), and 400 IM (25th with 4:36.11). He was on the Swiss National Team last year but needs to requalify for 2020. As he hopes to represent Switzerland internationally this summer, he is spending his gap year working towards that goal. He is a 12-time Swiss Junior National champion and is a National Record-holder in the 15-16 4×100 medley relay.

Seidel’s best times in his IM events come from 2018 Speedo Junior Nationals. He finished 14th in the 400m IM and was 28th in prelims of the 200 IM. This past summer he improved his LCM lifetime bests in the breaststroke events at Speedo Junior Nationals.

Best LCM times:

  • 400m IM – 4:27.25 (3:55.00)
  • 200m IM – 2:07.60 (1:52.07)
  • 200m breast – 2:22.82 (2:05.06)
  • 100m breast – 1:06.04 (57.69)

In the U.S., Seidel swims for Gator Swim Club in Massachusetts. A three-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, his top SCY times include:

  • 400y IM – 3:57.30
  • 200y IM – 1:51.31
  • 200y breast – 2:05.55
  • 100y breast – 57.08
