Switkowski and Kawecki Put Up Top Five Times at Polish Nationals

Jan Switkowski and Radoslaw Kawecki both posted top five times on the first day of the Polish National Championships.

Switkowski took the men’s 200 butterfly in a time of 1:55.23 which ranks fourth in the world. He also beat the World Championships qualifying time of 1:57.37.

Marcin Cieslak finished second in a time of 1:58.61 followed by Michael Poprawa who recorded a time of 1:58.88.

Kawecki, who took the silver in the 200 backstroke at the 2013 World Championships, won the men’s 200 backstroke in a time of 1:56.38. His time ranks fifth in the world and is also under the World Championships qualifying time of 1:59.19. He was not the only man to qualify for Kazan in the event, Mateusz Wysoczynski finished second in a time of 1:59.12.

Krzysztof Morawski finished third in a time of 1:59.31 qualifying for the World University Games.

Anna Dowgiert took the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 25.19 beating the World Championships qualifying time of 25.23. Polish record holder Aleksandra Urbanczyk finished second in a time of 25.27 followed by Nikola Petryka who touched in a time of 25.98.

Wojciech Wojdak was the final athlete to qualify for Kazan on the first night of competition. Wojdak took the men’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 15:05.34 destroying the qualifying time of 15:13.98. It was a heart breaking swim for Mateusz Sawrymanicz who finished second in a time of 15:14.06, only eight one-hundredths of a second off of the World Championships qualifying time.

Kryzysztof Pielowski finished third in a time of 15:31.42.
