Switkowski Blasts 1:39.5 200 IM to Become #3 All-Time

2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 200 IM final at the 2018 NCAA Championships was loaded, as 5 men entered the championship heat with best times in the 1:40-range: Cal’s Andrew Seliskar, Florida’s defending champion Mark Szaranek, Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz, NC State’s Andreas Vazaios, and Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine. In prelims, Cal’s Seliskar broke 1:40 for the first time, becoming the 7th fastest performer ever with the 9th fastest performance ever in 1:40.40. Tonight, it was Florida’s Jan Switkowski taking over, as he put up a 1:39.54 to become the 3rd fastest performer ever. Behind him, NC State’s Vazaios also broke 1:40 in 1:39.97 to become #4.

  • 50 Fly Split- 21.50
  • 50 Back Split- 24.84
  • 50 Breast Split- 29.14
  • 50 Free Split- 24.06
  • Final Time- 1:39.54

In addition to Switkowski and Vazaios, Florida’s Szaranek moved back on to the all-time top 10 performers list with his lifetime best 1:40.27 tonight, tying Cal’s Ryan Murphy for #8. The Bears’ Seliskar is now 11th with his 1:40.40 from prelims. Tonight, Stanford’s DeVine moved up to #10 as he placed 3rd in the final with a best time of 1:40.35.

NC state 1st Florida second that’s how I see these ending now

You have to swim a 1:40.2 or better to crack Florida’s all-time top 6. That’s insane. 6 under 1:41, 2 under 1:40.
