TAC Spring Invite: Claire Curzan WJR, Lance Norris Wave II Cut Highlight Day 1

The TAC Titans are hosting a Spring Invite this weekend in Cary, which is serving as a final tune-up for Olympic Trials qualifiers, and a final opportunity to pick up Olympic Trials cuts for some swimmers. TAC 16-year-old Claire Curzan made waves on the first day of the meet, breaking the World Jr Record in the women’s 50 free (24.17). Curzan also neared her personal best and the WJR in the 100 fly, swimming a 56.43. Read about Curzan’s swims here.

Lance Norris, a TAC 17-year-old, picked up an Olympic Trials Wave II cut in the men’s 400 IM, winning the event in 4:20.66. Norris entered the weekend with a lifetime best of 4:23.60, which was just off the Wave II standard of 4:23.24. In prelims, Norris swam a 4:22.01, grabbing the Wave II cut, then bettered his time by over a second in finals.

17-year-old teammate Michael Cotter picked up a Wave I cut in the men’s 50 free, swimming a 23.05. Cotter posted a 23.11 in prelims, marking a huge drop from his previous best of 24.19. Club Kick Start’s Zhada Fields, 23, posted a personal best in the women’s 50 free. Finishing 2nd, Fields clocked a 25.67 in finals, establishing a new personal best by 0.22 seconds. Fields already had the Wave I cut in the event, and touched just narrowly off the Wave II standard.

TAC 15-year-old Keelan Cotter posted a pair of victories and personal bests on the day. In the women’s 200 free, Cotter swam a 2:03.01, taking 1.16 seconds off her previous best of 2:04.17. She swam a very consistent race, splitting 1:00.47 on the 1st 100, and 1:02.54 on the 2nd 100, including a 30.79 on the final 50. Cotter went on to win the women’s 400 IM in 4:53.92, dropping 3 seconds from her previous best.
