Michael McBroom is the current American record holder and a World Championship Silver medalist in the 800 meter freestyle. He also set the NCAA record in the 1000 freestyle as a swimmer for the Texas Longhorns. McBroom graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2009 and the University of Texas in 2013. While at Texas, he set the NCAA record in the 1000 freestyle at 8:43.48 and was a 5-time NCAA All-American. He finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, before winning the event at NCAA's as a sophomore. He also finished 8th in the 500 freestyle that year. As a junior, he was seventh in the 500 freestyle and 8th in the 1650 freestyle, and as a senior, he finished second in both the 1650 and the 500 freestyle. 2012 At the 2012 Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, McBroom finished 7th in the 1500 freestyle and 8th in the 400 meter freestyle. 2013 At the 2013 World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, he qualified for the World Championship team in the 1500 freestyle and the 800 freestyle. In Barcelona, at the World Championships, he won a silver medal in the 800 freestyle and finished fifth in the 1500 freestyle. That year …
