Tamas Kenderesi Handed Written Reprimand, Funding Withdrawal For 6 Months

The punishment has been revealed for Hungarian Olympian Tamas Kenderesi, stemming from sexual harassment allegations, which came out immediately after this summer’s World Championships concluded in Gwangju, Korea.

The events in question occurred at a nightclub where Kendersi admitted he ‘touched a Korean girl’s buttocks who was working as a dancer in the club.’

At the time, Kenderesi stated, “I deeply regret what happened and I wish to beg the Korean girl’s pardon in case I offended her, but I have to strongly deny that I’m guilty in any kind of sexual harassment.”

Kenderesi was formally accused of committing an indecent act by compulsion and he paid a deposit of 3 million won (~$2500 USD). The charge was considered a summary offense under South Korean law, to be dealt with administratively and without a courtroom trial.

Kenderesi returned to Hungary on August 1st, where the President of the Hungarian Swimming Federation (MUSZ), Sandor Wladar, stated the 22-year-old would be put in front of a disciplinary committee.

Per Xinhuanet this week, Kenderesi was given a written reprimand by MUSZ, along with the withdrawal of his federal support for 6 months.

“The committee of MUSZ found that Tamas Kenderesi had committed a single intentional misconduct violation of the organization’s ethical regulations.”

The disciplinary committee reportedly took into account the statements made by the swimmer and the official court records received from South Korea.

Pretty tough on Kenderesi, considering that MUSZ covered-up for Laszlo Kiss for decades.
