CLEARWATER, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams enjoyed a successful Spartan Invite, which was hosted by UT at the Long Center.
The three-day event included a total of four men’s teams and five women’s teams. Tampa took home a total of five first-place finishes on the final day.
In men’s action, Tommy Reminger was first in the 1,650 Free, finishing the first event of the evening with a time of 15:46.13.
Jeremy Parker also won the 100 Free with a time of 43.89. Parker set a new school record as he also became the first swimmer in school history to record a sub-44-second finish in the 100 Free.
Tampa took the top three spots in the 100 Free as Parker was joined by teammates Martin Hammer (43.94) and Khalid Aldaboos (44.33) as medalists.
The Spartan 400 Free Relay also set a new school record as it won the final event of the competition, as the team was made up of Hammer, Aldaboos, Jordan Augier and Parker 2:54.73. The team of Wayne Denswil, Runar Borgen, Forrest Lundy and Danny Duhig also finished third in the event.
Christian Berg added a first-place finish of his own, coming in the 200 Back (1:48.37). Vince Perstad Leveau was third in the 1,650 Free (16:07.03) as Victor Philaire was second in the 200 Fly (1:49.15), Marc-Olivier Caron was third in the 200 Fly (1:53.51).
Izzy Spalding led the Tampa women as she won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:06.27.
Brittany Bayes was second in the 1,650 Free (17:11.07), Marisa Barton was third in the 100 Free (51.95), Sophie Long was second in the 200 Fly (2:07.15) and Victoria Horsman was third in the 200 Fly (2:07.42).
UT’s women finished the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Long, Barton, Fernandes and Noel Styer were timed at 3:27.44.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, January 8 at home versus Indian River State College. The meet will be the first of a pair of weekend races, which also includes the Tampa Relays on Saturday, January 9.
