China’s Tan Haiyan has cleared his second World Junior Record in as many days at the 2017 Chinese National Championships – and this time, picked up a National Record as well.
Tan, born in 1999, swam a 2:08.71 to win the men’s 200 breaststroke. That undercuts Anton Chupkov’s old World Junior Record of 2:09.64 that was swum at the 2015 World Championships.
Editor’s Note: all records await ratification before they’re official, but especially World Junior Records, which go unrecognized at a notoriously-high rate as compared to other records.
The old Chinese National Record of 2:09.54 was done by Mao Feilian, also at the 2015 World Championships. Feilian took 2nd-place on Saturday with a 2:10.21.
Tan’s splits, by 50, show a unique pattern whereas, after his opening length, his 3rd and 4th 50s were faster than his 2nd:
- 29.30/33.42/32.86/33.13
Haiyan’s individual races are done, after the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM.
Fantastic time! New talents is coming 🙂
World junior champs are going to be exciting this year.
