Crippen Cup 10k Results

Americans Taylor Abbott and Haley Anderson were crowned king and queen of the Crippen Cup 10k, a race within the 2018 Open Water Festival at Miromar Lakes and named after the late open water swimmer, Fran Crippen.

Taking place on Saturday, April 7th, Tennessee diustance ace Abbott clocked a final winning time of 1:55.03 to claim the win, followed by Brennan Gravley and David Heron who earned respective silver and bronze.

“I ended up with some separation pretty early,” Abbott told Naples News after the race. “It wasn’t really in my race plan, but I ended up with it and just kind of had to run with it. I’ve been training a lot for this. I have nationals in a few weeks and it’s good to be able to get a 10K in before nationals.”

For Anderson’s part, the Olympic open water athlete won the women’s race in 2:02.21, outshining national teammate Becca Mann and Kathryn Campbell. Mann finished in 2:02.48 for silver, while Campbell clinched bronze in 2:03.01.

“It’s a really nice prep race for nationals,” Anderson said. “I just came off a good training camp in San Diego so I’m looking forward to nationals and a great summer of swimming.” (Naples News)

First place was awarded $1,500, followed by $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. Swimmers also received $100 bonuses for the race leader at the end of every lap.  Top finishers
