A major record fell during the second night of the 44th Jose Finkel Trophy in São Paulo, Brazil, where spectators saw both Brazilians and foreign swimmers take to the long course meters pool. The meet runs through Saturday, August 22nd.
Taylor McKeown had the biggest swim of the day, breaking her meet record from prelims by four seconds to win the women’s 200 breaststroke for the Minas Tenis Clube with a 2:24.09. She initially broke the meet record of 2:28.99 in prelims with her time of 2:28.45.
After prelims, she told the media that she is really enjoying her time in Brazil.
“It’s my first time in Brazil and I’m having so much fun. I was also in Kazan, I’m tired as many, but I will give my best to score for Minas. Got a record now and I will talk to my coach to see where I can improve to further lower the time in the evening finals” – Taylor McKeown
McKeown’s time not only lowered the meet record, it was also more than three seconds faster than the South American record, although it doesn’t count for anything because she represents Australia internationally.
In the men’s 200 breaststroke, Andreas Mickosz ran away from the field with a dominant 2:11.65 200m breaststroke. He picked up the win for Corinthians by nearly two seconds.
Henrique De Souza posted the fastest time of the session to win the men’s 100 butterfly. His time of 52.32 was a slight improvement from his morning swim and was enough to hold on for the win, adding another victory for the Minas Tenis Clube.

- Miguel Leite Valente won the men’s 1500m freestyle for the Minas Tenis Clube with a 15:32.45.
- Daynara L Ferreira Paula was the only swimmer in the field to break 59 seconds in the women’s 100 butterfly, winning the event with a 58.93.
