WOMEN’S 100 FREE:
- Pro Swim Series Record: Sarah Sjostrom, 53.12, Austin 2016
- GOLD: Taylor Ruck, 53.51
- SILVER: Margo Geer, 53.74
- BRONZE: Kayla Sanchez, 54.71
Indiana postgrad Margo Geer had the early speed, flipping in 25.78, but Canadian youngster Taylor Ruck went by her in the final 15 meters to win it in 53.51. That was Ruck’s 2nd medal of the night after taking silver in the 100 back. Geer wound up with silver in 53.74, clipping her lifetime best from prelims by 2 hundredths. Another Canadian junior, Kayla Sanchez, picked up a medal with her 3rd place finish. Sanchez came home hard to clip Bahamian Olympian Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace (54.75) at the finish. Last night’s 100 fly champ Amanda Kendall, a teammate of Geer’s, wound up 5th in 55.42.
Genuine.
At least every alternate word wasn’t “awesome” like Americans of all ages!
Taylor’s a strong student athlete with a good head on her shoulders. But she is known to be shy and gets nervous with interviews. Anyone who knows her enjoys her sense of humour, her humility, and strong work ethic: a good combination. She’s also a perfectionist, I’m sure she’ll work on her interview skills.
Well said.
It was the most “high school kid” interview and that’s not a bad thing at all.
That’s a lot of likes
….I don’t know
Taylor is a 17 yo HS senior, and this is probably one of her first individual inviews, so i think she did good. Taylor will surly have many more 1st place finishes, and thus more practice being on camera and responding to interviewers questions.
PS Taylor’s 100m time was faster than Ledecky in 2016. Go Girl Go!
First interview??? Wasn’t she in rio??? LOL. She’s had many interviews and needs to know how to articulate.
She’s a swimmer. How, exactly, does elocution help with that??? Ya think taking a few I-don’t-knows and likes out of her replies is gonna shave a couple of hundreths off of her 50 Free??? I think you’re on the wrong board… Toastmasters is down the hall.
In 2016 (Rio) Katie Ledecky swam 52.6 in prelim 4×100 free relay. I think it is about the same as Taylor Ruck’s personal best of 52.96
I don’t know the importance of katie ledecky,s 52.6 flying start in the 4×100 relay to taylor ruck,s personal achievements. She might be wondering the same if she,s reading the comment section.
No importance. just providing some data for DAVE if he isn’t familiar with it.
The interesting thing here is that Ledecky posted her best ever 100 Free in the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin two years ago, clocking a 53.75, in a year when she was training with an eye towards the coming Olympics in Rio. anyway, don’t think there’s really much reason to compare these two, since Taylor is a bit more up Missy Franklin’s lane in terms of the events she competes in. Besides, they’re going to be teammates next year at Stanford and I’m sure Taylor is looking to forward to training alongside Katie
.. I dunno
