Taylor Schaffer Verbally Commits to Join Family Legacy at UCLA

High school senior Taylor Schaffer verbally committed to swim at UCLA in April. Next fall, she will join her older sister Brooke as a Bruin – Brooke is starting her sophomore season in Westwood. Their dad, Greg, swam at UCLA, where he was an 8-time All-American and NCAA Championships runner-up in the 200 breaststroke in 1992.

Taylor, hailing from the PASA club in northern California, is primarily a freestyler. Like her sister Brooke, Taylor is also good at the 200 free, though Taylor tends to move up to the 500, while Brooke moves down to the 50 from there.

Schaffer’s junior season high school championship meet was canceled, but at the 2019 Central Coast Section Championships, she placed 11th in her best event, the 500 freestyle.

At that meet, Schaffer’s Saint Francis High school placed 2nd overall.

• 200 free – 1:55.65
• 500 free – 5:05.95
• 400 IM – 4:39.76

In the Bruins’ first full recruiting cycle since hiring Jordan Wolfrum as the team’s new head coach, the team has registered a large 11-swimmer class of 2021. That includes Gizem Guvenc, Eva Carlson, Ashley Stenstrom, Kathryn Lundh, Ana Jih-Schiff, Paige MacEachern, Morgan Hawes, Mia Chang, Joanie Cash, and Emma Matous.

The pair’s youngest sister, Alexis, is 15 and also a swimmer.
